Medical
center names Thomas Scardaville
VP of strategic planning and marketing
Thomas Scardaville
has been appointed vice president of strategic
planning and marketing at Southwest Washington
Medical Center.
“Scardaville
is charged with energizing SWMC’s ongoing strategic
planning process and will work to enhance SWMC’s
public image, while building stronger relationships
with key organizations and individuals in our
community,” says medical center president and CEO
Joe Kortum.
He will also assess industry trends, analyze
cross-divisional systems and look for new business
opportunities, according to Kortum.
A Wharton
Business School graduate with over 25 years of
management experience, Scardaville most recently was
senior vice president for business development and
marketing for Aurora Healthcare System, a $2 billion
regional healthcare system in Milwaukee, Wis.
The medical
center is moving ahead with a $123 million expansion
at the Mill Plain campus to boost patient room and
surgery capacity.
Restaurateur and a founder of St. Joseph Catholic
Parish, Emmet Onslow died at 90
A funeral
mass was celebrated today for
Emmet Onslow,
who died Sunday at the age of 90.
With his
brother, Harold,
Mr. Onslow, in 1946, acquired the Pastime Tavern and
then created, and for many years, operated downtown
Vancouver’s popular Onslow’s Restaurant.
Mr. Onslow
was one of the founders of St. Joseph Catholic
Parish and was active in both parish and civic
affairs. He served on the Vancouver City Council and
as president of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of
Commerce. He was also active in the Knights of
Columbus, Boy Scouts, Gyros, Royal Oaks Country
Club.
Mr. Onslow’s
wife, Madeleine,
preceded him in death 24 years ago. He is survived
by his brother, Harold, two sons,
Ron and
Chris, two
daughters, Barb
Smith and
Jackie Jones, 15 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.
Port of
Vancouver plan to nearly double operations subject
of open house
Plans for the
Port of Vancouver’s long-awaited Columbia Gateway
project, which will nearly double the size of the
port’s maritime and industrial operations, will be
presented to the public at an open house from 5 to 8
p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in port offices at 3013 NW
Lower River Road.
The port has
also scheduled a public comment meeting for 7 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 1, and a final public hearing on the
project at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Sweetest
ruby reds this
side of Texas up for grabs
Clark County
Kiwanians have begun annual sale of Texas ruby red
grapefruit, and expect to sell out 1,800 cases
within two weeks.
Profit from
the grapefruit, sold for $12 per case, mainly goes
to Kiwanis Club children's charities. There are 18
to 20 grapefruit per case.

who three years ago set a $1 million in-three-years
goal for the Evergreen School District Foundation,
is resigning from that position—mission
accomplished. The foundation raised more than
$400,000 in the past fiscal year. Referred to
recently as “charismatic” by a newspaper reporter,
Nierenberg is characterized by school district
president Victoria
Bradford as “deeply caring.”
