Sarah Nevue appointed vice president
of development at Community Foundation
Sarah Nevue has been appointed vice president of development for the Community Foundation, according to Nancy Hales, president. In this newly created position at the foundation, Nevue will serve both as deputy administrator and chief development officer. Nevue most recently was with Jordan Schnitzer, supporting Schnitzer’s philanthropy in the Northwest. Nevue also worked in leadership positions for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Oregon Symphony and Lewis & Clark Law School. A graduate of Cornell University, Nevue worked in New York at the Whitney Museum of American Art and at Christie’s Auction House. The Community Foundation was founded in 1984 and has more than $50 million in endowment funds. Washington Learn’s public
hearing A public hearing on the first draft report of Washington Learns, a statewide education initiative headed by Gov. Chris Gregoire, is at 6 p.m. this evening in the Student Services Building, Room 110, on the Washington State University Vancouver Salmon Creek campus. In addition to Ann Daly, executive director of Washington Learns, and State Rep. Bill Fromhold (D-49th), participants are as follows: Hal Dengerink, chancellor, WSU Vancouver; Twyla Barnes, superintendent Educational Service District 112; John Deeder, superintendent Evergreen Public Schools; and John Erickson, superintendent of the Vancouver School District. Testimony will be accepted from the general public. Property Fairness Initiative A forum to discuss Initiative 933, the so-called Property Fairness Initiative, which will be on Nov. 7 general election ballots, is at 6 p.m. this evening in the sixth floor training room in the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street. Sponsored by the Washington Farm Bureau, which collected petitions with 317,000 signatures statewide, the initiative would require compensation to property owners for uses of their land taken away by governmental action. Speakers are Tom Bjorgen, Susan Rassmusen and Phillip Grillo. The forum is sponsored by the American Planning Association’s Southwest Section. Preliminary Vancouver Lake The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present an update of its preliminary restoration planning for Vancouver Lake at the 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, meeting of the Vancouver Lake Watershed Partnership in Port of Vancouver offices, 3103 NW Lower River Road. The Corps of Engineers study funding was secured through U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd), who is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The Forum at the Library “Does Your Vote Count?” is the subject of the Forum at the Library presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in Library Hall in the Vancouver Community Library, 1007 E Mill Plain Boulevard. Speakers are Clark County auditor Greg Kimsey and Clark County Elections supervisor Tim Likness. Ron Morrison will moderate a panel consisting of Don Gardner, representing the Democratic Party, Mike Gaston, representing the Republican Party, and Debbie Abraham, representing the general public. The Forum at the Library presentations are free.
