Anna Miller re-elected GOP chairman Anna Miller Saturday was re-elected chairman of the Clark County Republican Party. Ryan Hart was re-elected vice chairman, and Ron Tooley was re-elected treasurer. Sharon Long was elected secretary of the local party, succeeding Lee Davis, who did not stand for re-election. Margie Ferris was re-elected state committeewoman. Brent Boger was elected state committeeman, succeeding Mike Gaston, who did not run for re-election. Dental practices merge New Horizons Family Dentistry and Cascade Dental Group, both of which were formed in Vancouver in 1983, today announced their merger. The new partnership is known as Cascade Dental/New Horizons. Robert Seemuth, founder of New Horizons, says the two organizations share the same philosophy and commitment to excellence. Cascade Dental founder Jay Langsdorf says that top-level, state-of-the-art dental care will be offered from the Cascade Park and Fisher’s Landing dental offices and the dental office at Mill Plain Boulevard and the Padden Parkway. SWMC medical scholarships available Applications are being accepted for medical scholarships offered by the Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Foundation. The scholarships range in value from $1,000 to $3,500 from a pool of $100,000 annually offered by the foundation. Half the scholarships go to medical center employees and volunteers. The scholarships can be used for a wide range of medical career majors. Application deadline is Friday, April 6. Application materials are available online by going to www.swmedicalcenter.com. Application forms can be picked up at the medical center, 400 NE Mother Joseph Place, at the Memorial Health Center, 3400 Main Street, and at the medical center’s human resources office, 5400 MacArthur Boulevard. auditing For the 25th consecutive year Clark County has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, according to county auditor Greg Kimsey. The certificate, awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, Kimsey says. The award was presented to auditor’s office Mary Zieman, financial services manager, and Sandra Barnes, senior management analyst. Clark College honors King Clark College has scheduled two free public events celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. next week, opening with a presentation by artist and author damali ayo at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the Gaiser Hall Student Center. Ayo is the author of How to Rent a Negro. Following her presentation, ayo will sign copies of her book in the Penguin Student Union Fireside Lounge. The book is available in the college bookstore. Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, civil rights advocate Hari Kondabolu will moderate an interactive discussion, “Protecting Civil Liberties and Human Rights for All.” That session will be held in rooms 358, B and C, in the Penguin Student Center.
