Jane Lee receives Marshall Youth Leadership
award from Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard


Jane Lee
, Mountain View High School student has been named winner of the 2007 General George C. Marshall Youth Leadership Award. She is one of 23 students nominated for the award who demonstrate leadership, takes stands for the rights of others, serves as a role model, shows initiative and motivates others to become involved.

Lee will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a $500 summer internship with the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust. The formal award presentation will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the Marshall House on Officers Row.

Lee also earned the 2007 YWCA Community Service Award. She is president of the Red Cross Club at Mountain View High School and is a member of the Clark County Youth Commission.

Also nominated for the award were the following: Samuel Baciuc, Bridget McNutt and Melanie Palmer, Evergreen High School, Brooke Bekkedahl and Evelyn Harper, Columbia River High School, Derek Burton, Jonathan Groat, Megan Karas, Amanda Mayoral and Samantha Peraza, Ridgefield High School, Julianne Chapman, Skyview High School, Joe Clark and Hailey Mark, Hudson’s Bay High School, Justine Domingueze, Woodland High School, Deborah Ecaruan and Jennifer Pesut, Mountain View High School, Kathryn Gaffney, Ashley Mare Grant and Colleen Kimsey, Vancouver School of Arts & Academics, Krista Greer, Washougal High School, Erin Tayor, Camas High School, and Kelsey Wells, Heritage High School.

The Marshall Youth Leadership award is a program of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust.

Cliff Gibbs
has joined First Independent as a real estate asset manager and Chris Kiefer has joined the bank as branch team leader at the Minnehaha branch.

Gibbs will oversee properties owned by the bank and its founding Firstenburg family, will also help integrate the development of the bank’s real estate assets, and will help provide real estate consulting for groups, families, trusts and estates,

Gibbs has more than 25 years’ experience in commercial and residential estate management, including management services for Grubb & Ellis, Capital Consultants and Equitable Real Estate.

Kiefer, a graduate of DePaul University, has extensive background in retail management, including leadership roles with Mikasa, The Gap and Hallmark.

With over $1 billion in assets, First Independent is the seventh largest financial institution in the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area. The bank has offices in Portland and Bellevue as well as southern Washington.
