Skills Center gets $200,000 bequest

Dale Lang, founder and co-owner of Lang Brothers Enterprises, has made a $200,000 bequest to the Clark County Skills Center Foundation endowment fund. It is the largest single gift ever made to the foundation, according to executive director Katie Foehl.

Income from the Dale Lang Endowment Fund will be used to purchase equipment, provide scholarships, and advance Skills Center programs.

The bequest was announced last Friday during the Skills Center’s annual dinner, which grossed a record $23,000.

Lang Brothers is a general contractor for residential and commercial construction and has helped build the Skills Center’s Construction Technology Program. The company has also employed many Skills Center graduates.

The Skills Center is owned and operated by ten southwest Washington school districts, and provides technical and professional training programs preparing high school and college students for the workforce. For further information on the Skills Center, call Foehl at 604-1050.

Task force to discuss
4th I-5 bridge option

At its 4 p.m. meeting Tuesday, March 27, the Columbia River Crossing Task Force will consider subcommittee proposals for a 4th alternative of bridge and transit options for study as part of a draft Environmental Impact Statement process.

The task force had proposed three alternatives for study, one of which was to do nothing. The other two alternatives called for replacing the twin Interstate 5 bridges across the Columbia River with larger structures, differing only as to whether additional lanes for mass transit would be used for light rail or high-speed buses.

At issue is whether additional bridge crossings should be considered.

The subcommittee is chaired by Clark County commissioner Steve Stuart and Metro counselor Rex Burkholder.

The meeting is in the Washington State Department of Transportation offices, 11018 NE 51st Circle.
