Medical Center’s hyperbaric
medicine Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Hyperbaric Medicine Center is being upgraded and moved from the Memorial campus to 8716 Mill Plain Boulevard at the medical center’s main campus Monday, April 16, reports Jonathan Dykstra, medical director of the hyperbaric center. The center will offer Clark County its first access to new hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers. The system surrounds a patient with 100 percent oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure, increasing the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood, allowing red blood cells to pass more easily into the wound, healing the wound from the inside out, according to Dykstra. “Without advanced therapies available at the center, some wounds can take years or even decades to heal. In extreme cases, wounds that don’t respond to treatment may lead to amputation,” Dykstra says. Patients covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans may refer themselves to the center, Dykstra says. Primary care physicians may also refer patients to the Hyperbaric Medicine Center.
