Vancouver architectural ornamentation
lecture subject at Museum after Hours

Vancouver’s early sculptured terra cotta, intricate brick patterns and wooden gingerbread architectural ornamentation, as well as its modern glass building fronts, are subject matter for Derek Chisholm’s 7 p.m. lecture and slide show, “Architectural Ornamentation in Vancouver,” at the Clark County Historical Museum’s Thursday After Hours program, 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the museum at 1511 Main Street.

Vancouver resident Chisholm is a senior planner for Parametrix, Portland. He is a former manager of the Clark County Historical Preservation Program, a Vancouver Planning Commission member, and a member of the board of directors of the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation.

The museum’s current exhibits, “Vancouver Uncovered,” “Woven History: Native American Basketry," and “John Whitehead: Vancouver’s Grandma Moses?” will be open.

There is no admission fee during the after hours program.

iQ Credit Union employees challenged
to raise $13,000 for county trails

iQ Credit Union has challenged its employees to raise $13,000 for Clark County trails through its “Walk-a-Mile, Build-a-Trail” program, reports Clark County’s Parks Foundation spokesperson Cheri Cole. The first in a series is the iQ Credit Union Walk Lacamas Lake event that begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in Lacamas Lake Park.

According to Cole, the county Regional Trail and Bikeway Systems Plan designates a total of 240 miles of trails for development. Of those, 80 have been developed. dinner is Thursday, May 10

John Warta, chairman and CEO of PACIFIC Lightnet is the featured speaker at the Vancouver Business Journal’s annual Business Growth Awards dinner, Thursday, May 10, in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. A reception for winners is at 5 p.m. Dinner begins at 7 p.m.

Awards will be given for the innovator of the year, start-up business of the year, and the three fastest growing companies

The 2007 Home and Garden Idea Fair sponsored by Clark Public Utilities continues today through 8 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Clark County Fairgrounds. There is no charge for admission, but a $5 per vehicle parking fee is in force at the fairgrounds.
