headline Hot July
The Doobie Brothers headline this year's Hot July Nights in Esther Short Park at 8 p.m. Friday, July 20. KC Fuller’s two-day Hot July Nights celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Portland chanteuse Linda Hornbuckle opens at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 21, is a triple header. The gates open at 4:30 p.m. Tim Ellis and Jim Walker perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by The Four Tops at 7 p.m. Closing out the annual event are the Temptations, whose concert opens at 8:30 p.m. Food, wine and beer vendors are in attendance. Friday tickets are $35 each. Saturday tickets are $30. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at the gate. Local Red Cross
disaster team A dozen volunteers from the American Red Cross Southwest Washington Chapter were called on yesterday through 6 a.m. this morning to provide coffee, sports drinks and snacks for police and emergency workers during the hostage shootout near Mountain View High School. The volunteers also set up cots in the Mountain View gymnasium for officers who remained at the scene in between shifts. In addition, volunteers provided emergency workers with Burgerville coupons. Separate facilities were set up for three evacuees who were displaced during the incident, according to Disaster Action team captain Chuck Prochnow. Main Street Theatre has full bar When it opens at 7:15 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the air-conditioned Main Street Theatre, 606 Main Street, the bar will provide patrons mixed drinks, in addition to wine and beer. Arts Equity Theatre, now in its second year, is one of the first nonprofit organizations in southwest Washington to obtain a state not-for-profit liquor license. Drinks can be sold only during performances. Arts Equity is presenting Steve Martin's comedy Picasso at the Lapin Agile, directed by Lewellyn Rhoe, at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, and 8 p.m. Friday, July 21. Tickets range from $15 to $24. A dinner-theater package with the Restaurant in the Historic Reserve is $55. For further information, call Rhoe at 695-3770. Jim Dunn gets three House appointments State Rep. Jim Dunn (R-17th) has been appointed to the new Washington Tourism Commission, reappointed to the Family Policy Council and named an alternate to the state Community Economic Revitalization Board by House speaker Frank Chopp (D-43rd). The Washington Tourism Commission replaces the state Tourism Development Advisory Committee. Dunn is also the ranking Republican member of the House Appropriations and Housing Committees. He is also a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education. IQ Credit Union
building IQ Credit Union has started construction on its ninth Clark County branch at the corner of Highway 14 and SW 6th Avenue in Camas. The new branch is to open in the first quarter of 2008, according to credit union CEO Roger Michaelis. IQ Credit Union, formed in 1940, serves over 39,000 members. The credit Union was named one of 100 best companies to work for in Washington in 2007. Calendar The Vancouver Food Co-op is holding a potluck dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. in the National Park Service Interpretive center, 1502 E Evergreen Boulevard, at the southeast corner of Officers Row, this evening to discuss the proposed downtown Vancouver Food Co-op grocery store and to offer $180 shares in the venture. Backers of the food co-op are also seeking volunteer help.
