Famous Amos of cookie fame gets his just desserts
Famous Amos, Wally Amos, who was commencement speaker at the Clark College commencement this year was promised a symbol of the Penguin Nation, which last week was delivered in person in Honolulu, Hawaii, by Clark College director of communications and marketing Barbara Kerr. Bank of Clark
Heather Smith has joined the Bank of Clark County as a financial services officer. A former personal banker, Smith has 11 years’ banking experience. A native Oregonian, Smith is a graduate of Portland Community College and Concordia University. She is a Junior Achievement classroom instructor and former youth soccer coach in Salmon Creek. Smith spent a year in Costa Rica as a volunteer for the International Christian Youth Exchange. Clark College
offers fresh start The Clark College displaced homemaker program offering free classes for homemakers, women or men, who have lost support of breadwinners is entering its 11th year, having provided assistance to over 800 women and men in the past ten years. The college has recently received a $110,000 grant from the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, which will support 165 displaced homemakers in eight classes over the next two years. Classes focus on transferable skills, goal setting, choosing a career, educational planning and budgeting, says Becky Merritt, the college’s eligibility programs manager. According to Merritt, participants have gone on to find jobs in nursing, social services, medicine, education and the hospitality industry. International sets Tuscany Altrusa International of Clark County’s foundation is the beneficiary of a Tuscany wine-tasting event from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in Salut! Wine Co., 16020 SE Mill Plain Boulevard. Twenty percent of all sales will be donated to the foundation, according to Altrusa spokesperson Tina Smith. Admission is $25 per person.
