Hart, McDowell, Wager named
to Clark County Hall of Fame

Ronald Hart, Tom McDowell and Florence Wager have been selected as 2007 inductees into the Clark County Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Vancouver Sunrise, has recognized the achievements of 100 local citizens. All Hall of Fame members have a rose planted in their honor at the rose garden at Orchards Park.

Hart is the founder and pastor of the Walnut Grove Church. He was a three-term member of the Vancouver City council and served as mayor pro-tem. He is a former director of the Vancouver Boy’s Academy and founder in 1970 of Vancouver’s Youth Outreach. Hart has also been active in community affairs and is an active Rotarian, having been president of the Sunrise Club and a district governor.

McDowell has served in law enforcement, fire fighting and emergency medical services. He is the founder and leader of Fire District 13. McDowell is a member of the Washington Region 4 Homeland Security Council. He is also a founder and leader in the Explorer Scout program in Clark County.

Wager, a 1946 graduate of Vancouver High School, is a founding member of the Parks Foundation. Wager is the only person to have twice been awarded the Citizen of Merit Award from the state Recreation and Parks Association. She is one of seven persons nationally to have been recognized with a Hero Award from the National Centers for Disease Control for promoting healthy living. She is a co-chair of Steps to a Healthier Clark County. Wager has also been active in the Vancouver Symphony, Propstra Plaza, YWCA and the Fort Vancouver Regional Library.

The induction banquet is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 25, in the Heathman Lodge. KATU news anchor Carl Click will be master of ceremonies. Admission is $40. For further information, call Andy Johnson, 566-2633.

Insiderman needs to clean office

We wrote a story about Clark County Development Disabilities Awards presentations yesterday, and every one of the award winners we wrote about received their awards a year ago. How do you suppose that that news release surfaced 365 days late?

Considering that Gina Bacon is board chair of the Clark County Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council, this is about as dumb a thing as Insiderman has done, at least this year.

However, we received a fresh news release this morning containing the names of the 2007 award winners, and they are listed in a separate story in today’s newsletter.

Less egregious, but equally dumb, we misspelled Vancouver performance analyst Tom Nosack’s name by leaving out the c for which Nosack upbraided us, saying his daughter wouldn’t recognize who he was. The world of websites being what they are, we have retroactively corrected the misspelling, so Nosack can show it to his daughter.
