Election turnout kind of so-so Over 188,000 registered voters were offered the opportunity of voting in tomorrow’s general election, but by this afternoon just over 50,000 had responded. Tim Likness, Clark County elections supervisor, said today that the total turnout is expected to be in the 40 to 42 percent range. Earlier the county auditor’s office had predicted that possibly as many as half the voters would respond. Local voting percentages are all over the map. Last year, with a county commissioner race heating things up, the turnout was over 52 percent. Two years earlier the turnout was 31 percent and two years, before that it was 35 percent. Voters must either drop off ballots at designated polling locations or at the drive-up collection box just off Franklin Street, south of Mill Plain Boulevard or if mailing in ballots they must be postmarked by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, to be counted. employment Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, with the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring three free workshops on employment law, the first of which is noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the chamber of commerce office. Gergen David Gergen, advisor to Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bill Clinton, is the speaker for the Clark College Distinguished Lecture Series presentation at 7 p.m. in Gaiser Hall, Wednesday, Nov. 7. There is no charge for the lecture, but seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Gergen is also a commentator and best selling author. He is professor of public service and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and is editor-at-large for U.S. News and World Report. Gergen is a Yale graduate who earned a law degree from Harvard University. He also has been awarded 15 honorary college degrees. Legacy Salmon Creek offering Kenneth Ensroth, child psychiatrist and clinical director of the Legacy Emanuel Child and Adolescent Treatment Program, will discuss signs and symptoms of depression in children and teenagers in a two-hour class at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in conference rooms C and D in Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital, 2211 NE 139th Street.
