Van Dusen appointed Clark
College
William Van Dusen, Jr. has been appointed director of Advising & Counseling at Clark College, reports college president Bob Knight. In his new role, Van Dusen, who has a background in both education and law, will direct the Clark College advising department, which will provide student services to give Clark students academic, professional, and personal support. From 1986-1996,Van Dusen served as director of recruitment for the Community College of Denver. From 1997-1999, he was assistant to the dean of student services at Front Range Community College in Boulder. From 2000-2007, Van Dusen was the assistant director of Advising for Regis University’s School for Professional Studies and was appointed as interim director of Student Services in 2006. From 2004 to 2006, he served as a chair of the Small Colleges and Universities Commission of the National Academic Advising Association. He also practiced law in Denver. Van Dusen graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and earned his law degree at the University of Denver's College of Law. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of artistic director Salvador Brotons, offers a concert of the Russian music of Borodin, Scriabin and Rimsky-Korsakov at two concerts this weekend. Spanish-born, European pianist Carmen Yeppes will perform Alexander Scriabin’s only piano concerto, Piano Concerto, Opus 20. The program opens with Alexander Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia and concludes with Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Opus 32. Performances are at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, and 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the concert hall in Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th Street. Ticket prices are $36, reserved seats; $27, general admission; $22 seniors and $7 students. For further information, call 735-7278. State Economic Development Services go local, almost Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced the opening of seven regional offices across Washington “to provide greater access to state resources for economic development organizations, communities and industries.” The offices, according to the governor, are regional locations of the Washington Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development, and are an important component of her 10-year business strategy for the state. The only problem locally is that the office serving Clark County is in the Satsop Industrial Park in Grays Harbor County That location will serve Grays Harbor, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Lewis, Cowlitz, Clark, and Skamania Counties. Other offices in the state are at Spokane, Colville, Kennewick, Walla Walla, Wenatchee, Mount Vernon, Seattle and Shelton. News brief The planned dedication of Maya Lin’s Confluence Project land bridge across Highway 14, that had been planned for Friday, November 16, has been postponed to the spring of 2008. September rains were blamed for the delay in completion and opening.
