Craig Armstrong appointed
Craig Armstrong, partner with Miller Nash LLP, has been appointed general counsel for Southwest Washington Medical Center, Joe Kortum, president and CEO, announced today. Armstrong, whose background includes both profit and non-profit business employment law and labor relations, will provide guidance on legal and contract-related issues for the medical center and its parent organization Southwest Washington Health Systems. Armstrong, licensed to practice in Washington and Oregon, has been with Miller Nash since 1992. He is a graduate of the University of California and earned his law degree from Loyola Law School. Armstrong is chairman of the Oregon State Bar Employment Law Section, a certified senior professional in human resources by the Human Resource Certification Institute and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. Sheldon Tyler, former executive director of the Port of Camas-Washougal has been presented the 2007 Washington Public Port Association's Outstanding Service Award in recognition of 22 years of outstanding service and significant contributions to the port. Tyler resigned from the port in August pursue other interests. Tyler was nominated for the award by the Port of Camas-Washougal Board of Commissioners. Tyler was cited for increasing jobs, recreational opportunities and overall economic development for the local community. Examples of his achievements include the addition of eight warehouses in the port’s industrial park, over 100 new moorage slips in the marina, and 40 new hangars at the airport. He was instrumental in the development of the Captain William Clark Park at Cottonwood Beach as part of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration. Tyler also spearheaded the annual concert series at Marina Park, bringing a record 1,500 attendees this year. Grant helps Clark College
retain For the fourth consecutive year Clark College has received a nearly $60,000 grant to be used to assist students who are also parents cover school-related costs. The grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Child Care Access Means Parents in School most often is applied to child care costs but can also be used to apply to old debts. Child care costs are often twice the cost of tuition and books, according to Clark’s director of services for children and families, Laurie Cornelius. Legislators to get local
civic, Three of Clark County’s most powerful commercial, industrial and civic groups have called a meeting with southern Washington legislators in December to present their agendas. The breakfast meeting, called by the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Identity Clark County and the Columbia River Economic Development Council, will be from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in the Hilton Vancouver, Washington. The legislative delegation is expected to respond by sharing individual expectations of the 2008 legislative session. The subject matter includes the following: economic development, transportation funding, employment issues, property taxes, storm-water regulation and higher education. Cost of the breakfast is $30. News brief Clark County commissioners are asking for applications, nominations and recommendations for volunteers to serve three-year appointments on the Clark County Clean Water Commission. Terms on the commission begin March 1. The advisory panel makes recommendations to county commissioners regarding storm water management and water quality.
