Diana Olds earns Lions Club’s
highest honor
Diana Olds, an active member of
the Lions Club since 2004, has been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship
Award for exceptional service to the community by the Fort Vancouver
Lions Club. The award is given in recognition of humanitarian service
and represents the Lions Club Foundation’s highest honor.
Olds, who serves as the club’s
secretary, was recently presented the Secretary of Excellence award. She
was also Lions Rookie-of-the-Year in 2004.
Olds regularly volunteers her
time to support club activities, including Lions Program Chair, council
member, the board of directors and the scholarship committee. She also
assists with various Lions projects, including Golden Ear Days and White
Cane Days. She has volunteered for the Washington State School for the
Blind track meet and regularly participates in all Lions activities at
Washington Elementary School.
Old's day job is manager of
Columbia Credit Union’s Salmon Creek Branch. The Lions Club is a 1.3
million member humanitarian organization.
Karen Pohl’s high school
project helps the hungry
Karen Pohl's senior project at
Ridgefield High School is to collect food, an endeavor that involved
class competition. Of more than 2,000 pounds of food collected for local
food banks, the sophomore class collected over 1,000.
Last fall, Pohl organized a
student backpack program for Union Ridge Elementary School, modeled
after a program that originated in the Evergreen Public Schools.
Students whose families are in need are given 15 pounds of food to take
home each Friday.
