Clark County presidential Clark County Democrats and Republicans will be watching for the results of the Iowa presidential caucuses closely this evening. Local Democrats are gathering at 6 p.m. this evening in Dublin Down, 813 Main Street sports bar, in hopes of getting early results from cable television, according to Mike Heywood, editor of The Democrat, Clark County’s Democratic party newsletter. Members of both major political parties in Clark County will be holding county presidential caucuses from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. In most cases the caucuses will be conducted in public school locations with members of both parties caucusing in differing locations in the same schools. While local caucuses will certainly influence the Washington State conventions later next spring, the final determination of whom state political parties will nominate for president will come during the state conventions.
Amaya Urzaa promoted to vice
Amaya Urzaa has been promoted to vice president and commercial lending officer in the Bank of Clark County's commercial and industrial lending department, Urzaa will assist the bank’s business clients and real estate investors with loans and lines of credit. Urzaa, who has 11 years of banking experience, has been with the Bank of Clark County for nearly two years. Urzza is a graduate of Portland State University. She is a classroom volunteer for Junior Achievement and a volunteer coach with the Rose City Soccer Club. Urzza will relocate to the bank’s east Clark County office when it opens later this year. Partners in Careers Mike Phillips has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Partners in Careers, the local nonprofit agency serving job seekers and employers. Phillips is a firefighter paramedic for the City of Vancouver and is secretary-treasurer of the Central Labor Council. Elected with Phillips were vice chairman Richard High, vice president of Riverview Community Bank, and secretary Jo Jones, visitor information center coordinator for the Southwest Washington Convention and Visitors Bureau. Serving on the board of directors are Iloba Odum, Vancouver Field Office director for the Washington State Department of Ecology, Jackie Parker, recently retired from the Clark County Corrections Department, and Sue Vanlaanen, communications director for the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District. Misty River headlines Kiwanis The Salmon Creek Kiwanis Club presents an evening with Misty River at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the concert hall in Skyview High School, 13900 NW 139th Street. Misty River is a four-woman group which performs folk, bluegrass, Celtic and just plain American music, according to Kiwanis spokesperson, Ron Deibert. Misty River, formed ten years ago, has performed throughout the Pacific Northwest and has produced five CD albums. The concert, sponsored by Columbia Credit Union, is a fundraiser for Kiwanis projects on behalf of needy children and families, says Deibert. Tickets are $15 in advance of the concert and are available at a number of Clark County locations. For further information, call Deibert at 699-1234. People Capt. Dominic Oto and First Lt. Daniel Tuck are among 16 members of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team who will be deployed to Afghanistan.
