Byron Hanke elected president
Bryon Hanke, completing his first
six-year term on the Clark Public Utilities board of commissioners,
today was elected president of the board for 2008, succeeding
Nancy Barnes. Barnes was elected
secretary of the three-member board.
Carol Curtis was named vice president. Hanke, a former employee
of the utility, went on to become executive director of the Port of
Vancouver and upon his retirement from that post made his first run for
elective office. Tracy Fortmann unintentionally

Tracy Fortmann, National Park Service superintendent of the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and one of the key players in the future of West Vancouver Barracks, was pictured along with Sen. Patty Murray, U.S. Rep. Brian Baird and Mayor Royce Pollard in Monday’s dailyinsider.info, but not identified. Our fault. The occasion was delivery of the deed to the City of Vancouver for nearly 12 acres of West Vancouver Barracks from the U.S. Army. The Vancouver National Historic Trust will oversee development of the west barracks area for the arts, education and tourism in collaboration with the city and the National Park Service. disposal Clark County Public Works is offering coupons for free disposal of woody debris and other storm-related debris caused by last week's tornado, reports county commissioner Betty Sue Morris. Coupons, issued only to those affected by the tornado, are available at the Public Works Operations Center, 4700 NE 78th Street. Identification will be required. Property owners may also call the county for removal of root balls and downed tree stumps. The root balls and fallen trees can be used for some stream environmental restoration projects, according to Morris. Salary Review Commission meets Thursday Vancouver's citizens commission on Mayor/City Council Salaries is holding its first meeting and public hearing at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the Columbia Conference Room of the Esther Short Building, 610 Esther Street. The Salary Review Commission was established by a city charter section approved by city voters in 1994. The commission consists of five members of the community who are appointed by the mayor. The commission's purpose is to study the relationship of salaries to the duties of the mayor and city council members and to set their salaries.
