Author’s party signals release
of Clark County’s 2007 History

Publisher Howard Gingold and several authors of the 2007 Clark County History will be feted at an author’s party from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 26, in the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street.

There is no charge for the party and reception. Members of the Clark County Historical Society get copies of the annual history free with their membership. The price of the history is otherwise $14.

Gingold is a retired Los Angeles Times and CBS journalist and documentary filmmaker.

Camas artist Diana Rice Bonin worked with Gingold on the design and layout of the book. For further information, call 993-5679.

Port of Camas-Washougal
has Monday morning tour

The Port of Camas-Washougal, considering rezoning of its East Industrial Park, is conducting a public walking tour of the property at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28.

The East Industrial Park is just east of Captain William Clark Park on Cottonwood Beach. Participants are asked to arrive at 8:45 a.m. wearing warm clothes and walking shoes.

Port of Ridgefield pledges $2 million
toward Pioneer Street rail overpass

The Port of Ridgefield has begun the process of raising an estimated $12.5 million overpass on Pioneer Street with a pledge of $2 million. The overpass would link downtown Ridgefield with its Lake River waterfront recreational area. Construction of the project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2010.

The project will also allow closure of two at-grade railroad crossings, including the Mill Street crossing, which is currently rated as the fifth most dangerous crossing in the state.  Closure of the crossing will speed up freight and passenger movement through Ridgefield.

“Increasing freight mobility in Ridgefield will also promote redevelopment and employment at the port, and will also preserve and promote job growth and economic development in the entire Portland-Vancouver metro area,” says Port commissioner Roy Randel.
