Rich Carson has role in PBS
documentary on urban planning

Rich Carson, Hockinson, former Clark County planner, has been interviewed for a Public Broadcasting System documentary on urban planning in America that will be aired next year. Carson, in addition to having been a planner in the state of Washington, had been a planner with the Oregon Economic Development Department for Metro.

Northern Lights Productions, Boston, is producing the three-part series, Making Sense of Place. Carson’s contribution is to contrast mandated state planning in Washington and Oregon. The Northern Lights documentary takes a look at planning in Phoenix and Cincinnati, in addition to the Vancouver-Portland area.

Carson currently is an associate with Citygate Associates and is working with San Diego County’s department of planning.

Spanish immersion classes
to begin in kindergarten

The Vancouver School District will begin offering Spanish language immersion classes in kindergarten next year, reports Howard Yank, district resource coordinator.

Initially the classes will be offered at Harney Elementary School, 3212 E Evergreen Boulevard.

Parents who may wish to place their children in the program can learn more by attending an information meeting in the Harney School at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12.  The school district will begin accepting applications March 3.

For further information, call Yank at 313-1079.
