Matt Swindell, Ridgefield city councilmember, will announce his candidacy for Clark County commissioner during his campaign kickoff at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Country Café, 6370 Pioneer Street, Ridgefield. Swindell, serving his second term on the Ridgefield council, is a former member of the Ridgefield School District. A fifth generation county resident, Swindell is a Republican. Precinct caucuses begin
Clark County Republicans and Democrats begin the process of selecting delegates, and thus presidential candidates, for their national conventions at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in most polling places in the county. For Democrats, the meetings, held at the precinct level, will determine how delegates to the national convention will vote. For Republicans, that determination will be made through both the caucus process and the Tuesday, Feb. 19, presidential primary. Republicans will allocate 49 percent of the delegates based on the caucus results and 51 percent on the basis of the presidential primary vote. Each party has a pretty well thought-out website that can help explain the process. Democrats can go to http://www.wa-democrats.org/index.php?page=display&id=245. The Republican website is http://www.wsrp.org/images/wa/Caucus_Pamphlet_v5.pdf. These two websites are also listed in the dailyinsider’s Thursday headlines.
