Battle Ground State of the City
address at Battle Ground Village

Mayor Michael Ciraulo will deliver Battle Ground’s State-of-the-City address in the city’s new Gothic Abbey, in Battle Ground Village, 1401 SE Rasmussen Boulevard, Thursday, Feb. 21.

Battle Ground is described on the city’s Website as follows: “a fast growing, full service city surrounded by country landscape. Conveniently located within 15 minutes from either I-5 or I-205, Battle Ground is 25 minutes away from downtown Vancouver, 35 minutes from Portland City Center, 25 minutes from the Portland International Airport and 15 minutes from Westfield Vancouver Mall.”

The 6 p.m. address, appropriately titled “Imagine the Possibilities,” will be followed by a reception with Irby’s Fine Wine & Bistro.

The reception is hosted by Dennis Pavlina and Carmel Villarma, Battle Ground Village developers.

18th District lawmakers
set town hall meetings

The 18th District Republican lawmakers have scheduled three town hall meetings in Kalama, Battle Ground and Camas for Saturday, Feb. 23. The meetings are at 10 a.m. in the Kalama Fire Station 52, 415 Todd Road; 1 p.m. Battle Ground City Hall, 109 SW 1st Street, and 3 p.m. in the Camas Public Library, 625 NE 4th Avenue.

Participating are Sen. Joe Zarelli and Reps. Ed Orcutt and Jamie Herrera.

Final Chelatchie Prairie Rail and Trail
project planning session February 26

The final session of three open houses held to obtain public input on plans for development of the county-owned Chelatchie Prairie Railroad and a planned trail adjacent to the right-of-way, will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Brush Prairie High School, 11500 NE 117th Avenue.

The rail line runs from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line near Vancouver Lake to Chelatchie Prairie, 33 miles northeast, near the Yale Reservoir.

Also known as the Lewis and Clark Railroad, the line serves a number of industrial sites on the southern end and offers passenger rail excursions north of Battle Ground.

Christian Youth Theater presenting
two productions simultaneously

The Christian Youth Theater-Vancouver/Portland is presenting Little Women at Fort Vancouver High School, and Disney’s High School Musical on Stage, in the Joyce Garver Theater, 1612 NE Garfield Street, Camas, Friday through Sunday, this weekend and next.

Curtain times for Little Women are 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17. Performances of Disney’s High School Musical on Stage are 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, and 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17.

The Christian Youth Theater, founded in 1981, in San Diego, provides training in theater arts for youngsters 6 to 18, nationwide. It is the largest youth theater in the nation.

Admission is $11 for adults, $8 children and seniors. For further information, call 750-8550.

Vancouver’s newest public library, the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District’s east Vancouver library, will be known as the Cascade Park Community Library, library trustees decided this week. The small library branch in east Vancouver was known informally as the Cascade Park library. Groundbreaking on the new 25,000-square-foot public library, next to the Firstenburg Community Center on NE 136th Avenue, will be in May, according to library district executive director Bruce Ziegman. The Cascade Park Library will be ten times larger than the one being replaced.
