Baird uses purple prose
to promote green sales

U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd), at a news conference in a Vancouver Home Depot store today promoting the exchange of stimulus tax rebate money for green products, declared in a press handout: “First, consumers will stimulate the economy by spending the rebate checks. Second, by investing in energy conservation products, consumers will reduce their own energy consumption and save money on their energy bills. Third, by reducing energy consumption, we will reduce the overall demand for energy. Fourth, by reducing the overall demand for energy, we will reduce the overall cost of energy. And, fifth, by reducing energy consumption, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save our environment.”

U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, center and Clark Public Utilities Dean Sutherland talk green products as target for stimulus tax rebate purchases at news conference in Andresen Road Home Depot today. All local agencies are collaboratively pushing environmentally friendly activities.

Last February, Baird introduced a resolution in the House urging Americans to spend their stimulus rebate checks on energy-efficient products and services. The resolution also urged retailers to offer promotions to encourage spending on green products and services.

City, county and other agency officials participated in the news conference.
