Bridget Schwarz will be an
Independent
Bridget Schwarz, Clark County native, today announced her intent to become an Independent candidate for the post of Clark County commissioner currently held by retiring Democrat Betty Sue Morris. Schwarz, born in Portland to a pioneer Clark County family, has spent most of her adult life in the Fairgrounds neighborhood north of Salmon Creek, where she is a member of the Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association and is a former president of that organization. Schwarz is also a member of the board of directors of the national Neighborhoods USA organization. In order to run as an Independent candidate for county commissioner, Schwarz will hold a nominating convention from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in the Three Creeks Library. To be nominated, Schwarz must have signatures from 100 commissioner District 1 voters. Schwarz graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in downtown Portland and is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Clark County. She is the executive director of Friends of Clark County, a member of the Assistance League, Juvenile Justice Community Restorative Service, Master Gardners, Soroptimist International of Vancouver and former member of YWCA Family Night. Schwarz, who currently works
for Vancouver physician Kelly Lindgren,
is a former entrepreneur and manufacturers’ representative for
electronic products. Jim Jacks hired by
Jim Jacks, former southwest Washington public liaison officer for Gov. Chris Gregoire, has joined the MacKay & Sposito business development team, reports Al Schauer, president and CEO of the full-service civil engineering firm. In addition to joining the private sector, Jacks recently announced his intention to run as a Democrat to succeed the 49th District legislative post held by retiring Democrat Bill Fromhold. Jacks formerly worked for the City of Vancouver as the citizen advocate for nearly five years. During his tenure he received, responded to and solved over 4,500 citizen complaints and requests for information. He also was involved with public outreach for neighborhood associations, other local jurisdictions and the business community. Jacks is a member of the Downtown Vancouver Rotary Club and member of the board of directors of Leadership Clark County. Jacks is a graduate of Oregon State University, and earned a masters degree in peace studies from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom. Founded in 1974, MacKay & Sposito employees 70 persons and has offices in Vancouver, Kennewick and Wilsonville. First Friday starts at the Hilton Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served in the Hilton Vancouver Washington from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, as the Vancouver art community celebrates with guided tours of downtown Vancouver art venues. The free reception and tours are sponsored by Vancouver’s Downtown Association and hosted by the Hilton hotel. Bekkedahl, who has been in the electric utility business for over 20 years, will manage BPA's $300 million capital construction program.
