With less than $80,000 to go,
construction
Friends of Battle Ground Library are holding a 9 a.m.-to-5 p.m. book sale, and a community celebration at noon Saturday, April 19, marking the beginning of construction Battle Ground's new Community Library in Battle Ground Village, 1207 SE Rasmussen Boulevard. When finished next year, the 14,345-square-foot public library is expected to draw nearly 1200 visitors daily. The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District and the Gold Medal Group are co-developing the new library to replace the city's nearly 50-year-old library. The new library, part of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, is a present-day example of community spirit. Total construction cost of the two-story library is $3.8 million. The library district contributed $1.4 million to the project. The Gold Medal Group, developers of Battle Ground Village, a 21-acre retail section of its 108-acre mixed-use Battle Ground Center, contributed $1 million. The rest, about $80,000 that is still being rounded up by the Friends of Battle Ground Library, has come from the Friends' community fund drive, which so far has brought in over $1.3 million. We want to provide an opportunity to honor the community for its hard work in achieving its fundraising goals, says Dennis Pavlina, president of the Gold Medal Group. The new library is in the heart of Battle Ground Village, an open-air, mixed-use retail center that combines a classical European feel with contemporary, upscale retailers and restaurants reflecting the lifestyles of the Pacific Northwest. Battle Ground Center also includes The Oaks at Battle Ground Village, 40 live/work condominium units, Battle Ground Corporate Center, a 38-acre business park, and Commerce East Industrial Park and Sixth Street Station, which includes 167 new single-family homes and duplexes. For further information on the library, call Jane Higgins, president of the Friends of the Library, at 666-1480. For further information on the Battle Ground Center, call the leasing agent, The Management Group, 892-4000.
