Bravo! Vancouver presents
three “barn burners” Sunday

Bravo! Vancouver is presenting three “barn burners” of classical music at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 20, declares Bravo! Impresario Michael Kissinger.

The Washington Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Kissenger in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S Andresen Road, leads off with Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for piano, cello and violin. This, one of Beethoven’s best known pieces, is followed by one of Mozart’s best loved works, his Symphony #39. The finale is Also sprach Zarathustra, the Strauss composition became the theme music for Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Soloists are as follows: Kissinger, clarinet; Ann Kosanovich-Brown, bassoon; Maria Manzo, piano; Tylor Neist, violin; and Dale Tolliver, cello.

Reserved seating is $20 and is available at the door or by calling 906-0441.  

Vancouver Symphony presents
young artists this weekend

Young artists Emma Davis, flute, Michelle Leipzig, piano, and Natalie Yu, violin, are the stars of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s concerts at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, and 7 p.m. Sunday, April 20, in the concert hall at Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th Street.

The three young women from Oregon were winners in the symphony’s annual young artists competition and each received $1,500.

Also soloing in the weekend concerts during Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, are violinist Thomas Hwang, cellist Justin Kagan, and pianist Michael Liu.

The concerts also include excerpts from Le Villi, Puccini’s first opera. Featured are  soprano Coral Walterman, tenor Lance Ferguson, baritone Richard Lippold, and the Vancouver USA Singers.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, and range from $7 for students to reserved seating at $36. For further information, call 735-7278.

Dick Perkins named chief lending
officer at First Independent

Dick Perkins, senior vice president and former head of commercial real estate lending at First Independent, has been promoted to the newly created office of director of commercial banking & chief lending officer, reports First Independent COO Jeanne Firstenburg.

Perkins will work closely with recently appointed chief credit officer Mark Brandon.

Perkins has more than 25 years’ experience in commercial real estate. He is a graduate of Humboldt State University and holds a masters degree in urban planning from the University of Oregon.

Bank of Clark County names Bock vice president,

Bethann Bock
has been promoted to vice president and mortgage lending manager in the real estate lending division of the Bank of Clark County. She has 15 years’ banking experience and is a cum laude graduate of the University of Idaho. Bock is a member of the Rotary Club of Greater Clark County and serves on the advisory board of the Clark County Skills Center. Bock is a member of Vancouver’s Northwest Harmony Chorus.

Cirith Anderson-Sebree and Justus Poling have been promoted to assistant vice president at the bank. Anderson-Sebree is a project analyst in the finance department. Poling is an assistant loan officer in the industrial lending department.

A graduate of Willamette University, Anderson-Sebree is a director of communications for Minds Matter of Portland, Inc., and is a member of Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, Friends of the Arts and the Uptown Village Association.

Poling is a graduate of Oregon State University and is a member of the United Way, the American Cancer Society and Young Professionals of Portland.

Mother Joseph food drive underway

A two-week Mother Joseph food drive, sponsored by Southwest Washington Medical Center, begun yesterday on Mother Joseph Day in Washington state, runs through Wednesday, April 30.

Nonperishable foods brought to any Southwest Washington Medical Center location will be turned over to the Clark County Food Bank Coalition.

Drop-off locations are as follows: the medical center, 400 NE Mother Joseph Place; Memorial campus, 3400 Main Street; Healthy Steps, 6100 Fourth Plain Boulevard; Southwest Specialty Clinics, 8716 E Mill Plain Boulevard; Southwest offices, 5400 MacArthur Boulevard; Southwest Imaging or Rebound at Fisher’s Landing; and Rebound at Salmon Creek.

Food vendor application packets containing information, guidelines, rules and applications are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust, General O. O.
