Trust seeks developer/operator
as The Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust is seeking a private partner to develop a historic lodging facility in the Vancouver National Historic Reserve, trust president and CEO Elson Strahan announced today. A 2006 market feasibility analysis and performance projection suggests that a hotel facility of approximately 70 rooms could be supported. At a minimum, the project will include developing the Artillery Barracks building and the duplexes that originally served as quarters for non-commissioned officers. Development of a lodging facility inside the Historic Reserve has been a long-term goal, according to Strahan. While open to the general public, the lodging facility would also accommodate visitors interested in regional history in general, and more specifically the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and other tourist venues within the Historic Reserve. A recent lease modification with the International Air and Hospitality Academy returning control of the duplexes to the Trust allows the duplexes to be included in the Trust’s development plans. This means that the Trust rather than the Academy will now pursue developing a lodging facility. However, the Trust has committed to work with the Academy to develop internships and other training-related opportunities to Academy students in the new lodging facility. Potential developers should respond by July 25. It is anticipated that the process of selecting a developer partner, finalizing conceptual plans and negotiating a lease and development agreement will be concluded in January 2009. For further information, call Susan Holton, 992-1824.
Clark Public Utilities’
generating When it was shut down for routine maintenance in April, Clark Public Utilities’ natural gas-fired generating turbine had been running continuously for 277 days, a world’s record for General Electric FE 7-FA combustion turbine plants. The previous record was 203 days for a similar turbine owned by Florida Power & Light. Following a test run, the Clark plant was shut down while the utility takes advantage of cheaper wholesale electric power currently available from Bonneville Power Administration because of the high water runoff. Clark’s plant is on standby until the local utility or the region needs additional electricity. Diana Perez-Rose named Mount
