Barbara Waite and Noelani
Baker Barbara Waite and Noelani Baker have joined the staff of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, reports chamber president and CEO Beth Quartarolo. Waite has been named director of business development and will manage membership sales, advertising and sponsorships. Waite, who most recently was with the Bank of Clark County, has 30 years’ experience in sales and financial management. She is a member of the Clark County Rotary, the American Cancer Society and the East Vancouver Chamber Council. Waite attended Clark College and The University of Portland. Baker, named communications manager, will be in charge of internal and external communications for the chamber. Her background in public relations and media relations includes work at several Portland public relations agencies, including Leopold Ketel & Partners, and Conkling Fiskum & MCcormick. Baker is a graduate of the University of Oregon.
Marc Boldt gets competition Incumbent Republican Clark County commissioner Republican Marc Boldt, who filed yesterday for re-election to the office he was first elected to four years ago, is facing competition from Martyn Butler, Democrat, who also filed yesterday. Republican Michael Delevar has filed for representative from the 3rd Congressional District. He joins incumbent Democrat Cheryl Crist in an attempt to win the post from incumbent Democrat Brian Baird. The list of candidates trying to succeed in earning Democrat Betty Sue Morris’s open job as Clark County commissioner District 1 has grown to four. Joining candidates Republicans Tom Mielke and Brad Lothspeich and Democrat Pam Brokaw is Robert Nichols, who lists no party preference. Filing for public office continues through 5 p.m. Friday, June 6. The state’s primary election has been moved up to Tuesday, Aug. 19. Unlike in past years, the top two vote getters in each race, regardless of political party, will run in the Nov. 11 general election. Historical Museum honors The Clark County Historical Museum honors the centennial of the United States Forest Service in a program at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in the museum at 1511 Main Street. There is no charge for the First Thursday after hours event that opens at 5 p.m. Rick McClure, heritage program manager of the Gifford Pinchot and Mt. Hood National Forests, is the featured speaker. On Friday, June 6, from 5 until 8 p.m., the museum is holding an opening reception for its Boomer! Exhibit, showcasing the post World War II baby boomers. Refreshments will be served, and prizes will be awarded for appropriate costumes. For further information, call 993-5679. County begins work of The Clark County Planning Commission is beginning a series of work sessions this week to consider developing infill standards. The first work session is at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in the Public Service Center. Infill involves relatively small parcels of land passed over during periods of development and construction. By ordinance, some parcels may be developed according to special standards aimed at encouraging efficient use of land within urban growth areas. People Tom Mielke, Republican candidate for Clark County Commissioner, was erroneously listed yesterday as a former 17th District legislator in a story about 2008 political candidates. Mielke was a state representative in the 18th District. Calendar In a continuing series of neighborhood forums on light rail, a group of neighborhood associations will discuss construction costs, operational costs, maintenance costs, and taxes and fees related to light rail, should a line be extended from Portland to Vancouver, at 7 p.m. this evening in the Water Resource Education Center, 4600 SW Columbia Way. Speakers are Jeff Hamm, executive director of C-TRAN, and State Sen. Craig Pridemore (D-49th).
