Sustainability coordinator to
advance environmental goals

Pete DuBois, a long-time employee of the Clark County Public Works Department, has been named Clark County sustainability coordinator. He was also known for his presentations as Mr. Recycleman, for which he wrote and sang recycling messages for the county’s solid waste program.

In his new job, DuBois will implement county efforts to recycle, conserve energy and reduce the environmental impacts of all county programs, according to county administrator Bill Barron.

Current county initiatives include investing $2.4 million in solar electricity and water heating systems, creating urban gardens, providing incentives for employee commute trip reduction, and offering new opportunities for recycling in county parks.

Barron has also established a Sustainability Advisory Committee to help all county departments support sustainability objectives.

A graduate of Williams College, DuBois earned a masters degree in economics from Portland State University.

Plans for new Vancouver
library to be discussed

The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District is presenting and discussing plans for the 90,000-square-foot, $34 million Vancouver Community Library, on which construction may begin later this year at C Street and Evergreen Boulevard, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, in the current community library at 1007 E Evergreen Boulevard.

Financing for the new library was created by a voter-approved bond issue in September 2006. Project architects Miller Hull Partnership, Seattle, will present plans and will accept questions and comments.

The multi-story building will offer below-ground parking.

The new library is part of the Killian Pacific Riverwest development south of Evergreen Boulevard and west of the I-5 freeway. Killian Pacific donated the property to the library district.

For further information or to make comments, call 695-1566.

CVTV sets live call-in show
to discuss Columbia Crossing

CVTV is offering viewers an hour and a half to call in to a live discussion of the I-5 Columbia River Crossing project from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, according to Donna Mason, executive director of the public television channel.

Providing answers to viewers’ and callers’ questions and comments will be Vancouver transportation services manager Thayer Rorabaugh, C-TRAN executive director Jeff Hamm, and Washington State Department of Transportation southwest administrator Don Wagner.

“People have opinions, and they have questions about the crossing project, and this is an informal opportunity for them to be heard and get information as various public agencies begin to make crucial decisions,” Mason says.

Viewers may also submit questions by e-mail, either in advance of the program or during the call-in, to looneyt@ci.vancouver.wa.us.

The dinner-auction is at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Admission is $75 each. Tables of ten are $750. For further information, call auction manager Eileen Reilly, 750-0847.
