Wayne Nelson gets salary boost
Wayne Nelson, CEO/general manager of Clark Public Utilities, was awarded a pay increase of 9 percent, which raises his salary from $185,546 to $202,234, effective July 1. Byron Hanke, president of the utility’s Board of Commissioners, said, “Wayne continues to provide solid leadership, and has maintained a strong group of employees to serve our customer-owners. He has played an active role in major regional energy issues. One of our major goals is to maintain stable rates, and under Wayne’s leadership residential electric rates have remained unchanged for more than five years.” “We’ve also been able to set aside some money for a rate stabilization fund, which will help us manage volatile energy prices in the future,” Hanke said. Hanke said the increase was larger than might have been expected because salaries of comparable positions in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the country have increased dramatically in recent years. “We believe it’s important that utility employees be paid competitive wages, and that includes the CEO/general manager,” Hanke said. Commissioners also allowed Nelson to convert 100 hours of sick leave to vacation, and continued his monthly car allowance of $400.
