The Upkes Group adds
Mary Wiens has been hired by the Camas-based Upkes Group as a contract controller. Wiens has more than 20 years' experience as an accountant/controller. Prior to joining The Upkes Group, she worked for 14 years for Sekidenko, a Vancouver high-tech manufacturing firm, as accounting manager and divisional controller. Wiens is experienced in financial management, accounting systems and accounting department oversight. She specializes in management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and results analysis. Wiens, a practicing CPA earlier in her career, a graduate of Colorado State University. Since 2003, The Upkes Group has provided outsourced accounting and financial management oversight for businesses.
Mark Lewis appointed director Mark Lewis has been named director of the Science and Math Education Resource Center, a partnership among regional school districts, Educational Service District 112, Washington State University Vancouver, and Hewlett Packard. Lewis joins long-time director Anne Kennedy, who has accepted additional responsibilities as the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education director. She will work closely with Lewis in her new role to continue to enhance math and science education throughout the region and state. Lewis will manage projects in science and mathematics including a number of school-university partnerships, development of a regional mathematics, initiative, and expansion of the highly successful science education cooperative. Additionally, he will support efforts to align resources and expertise among school districts, higher education institutions, and private and public partners. Lewis is formerly director of Planning and Development for the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. There, he managed a regional university serving more than 22,000 students in 12 developing countries. Camas Days returning for Camas Days, replete with games, entertainment, food, wine, beer, vendors and the annual parade and annual bathtub race pretty well takes up most of downtown Friday and Saturday. Events get underway at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, mostly along Birch Street. A kids’ parade will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in front of City Hall at 4th and Franklin Streets. A surplus property auction will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the NE 4th and Franklin Street city parking lot. Live musical entertainment accompanies the Taste of Camas Wine & Microbrew Street events open from 5 to 11 p.m. both days. Saturday, July 26, events begin with the Camas United Methodist Church annual blueberry pancake breakfast at 14th and Garfield Streets. Bathtub races begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at 4th and Franklin Streets. Children offered lunch and Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation is offering a Summer Playground Program at five sites, through Friday, Aug. 15. Children ages six to eleven may participate, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Games, sports, playground time, and crafts are directed by Parks and Recreation employees. Children receive a free and nutritious lunch each day. There is a $20, one-time fee. The locations are as follows: Fruit Valley Elementary School, 3410 NW Fruit Valley Road; Hough Elementary School, 1900 Daniels Street; Washington Elementary School, 2908 S Street; Minnehaha Elementary School, 2400 NE 54th Street; and Evergreen Park, 3500 NE Fourth Plain Boulevard. encourage The Clark College Service-Learning Program has been awarded a $15,000 grant to further support service learning activities during the 2008-09 year by the Learn & Serve America program, reports Jody Schulnak, Clark College Service-Learning & Volunteer Program manager. Learn and Serve America, a program of the Corporation for National & Community Service, provides support to schools, higher education institutions and community-based organizations that encourages students to participate in community activities.
