Pat Escamilla appointed county
Pat Escamilla has been named Clark County juvenile court administrator, succeeding retiring Ernie Veach-White, reports county administrator Bill Barron. Escamilla is a California State University Fullerton graduate and earned a masters degree in public administration from City University. He began his career as juvenile detention officer in 1982, and since 1999 he has served as a probation manager for a number of juvenile court programs. Escamilla says the Clark County juvenile court is the best in the nation, according to Barron.
Community Choices delivering Community Choices will deliver a report to the community detailing the success of its five-year, $2.3 million initiative, Steps to a Healthier Clark County, at a celebratory gathering Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E 5th Street. The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. Barbe West, executive director for Community Choices, says the Steps initiative was based on a partnership with over 101 different organizations and over 400 volunteers. Financing was provided by a grant from Steps to a HealthierUS, funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Some of the Steps initiatives were as follows: Developing and integrating the Clark County Walkaround Guide. Establishing the Clark County Food System Council. Providing technical and financial assistance to four of the largest school districts in the county for implementation of nutrition and physical activity policies. Partnering with two primary care clinics to provide case management services for diabetes patients. Collaborating with the Clark County Tobacco Coalition to adopt voluntary outdoor smoke-free policies and develop a smoke-free housing guide. The Healthy Vending Campaign, Fit Pick, for worksites, schools and community organizations. The community walkability campaign advocating pedestrian-friendly environments. Tickets for the event that includes hors doeuvres and beverages are $25 per person. For further information, call 567-1067. Vancouver chamber announces The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce has appointed four new board members, reports CEO Kim Capeloto. They are Jeff Harvey, CEO Burgerville; Daniel Kirkwood, vice president, Kirkwood and Kirkwood; William Pritchard, owner, Pritchard Orthodontics; and Rhona Sen Hoss, community partnerships manager, The Columbian. In addition, Elie Kassab, president of Prestige Development, has been appointed to serve a second three-year term on the board. When the 118-year-old organizations meets for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in the Hilton Vancouver Washington, it is expected to install the following officers: Lisa Dow, west Coast Bank, chair; Don Russo, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, chair-elect; Jeff Woodside, Nutter Corporation, vice chair; David Horowitz, David A. Horowitz CPA, secretary/treasurer; and Carmen Villarama, The Management Group, Inc., immediate past chair. Featured speaker at the event is Jeff Shafer, president, Agave Jeans. Calendar The final free outdoor concert of the season presents the entertainers The Reds at 6 p.m. this evening at the Tech Center Park, at SE Tech Center Drive and SE 172nd Avenue.
