Pacific Surgical Specialists
Allen Gabriel has joined Vancouver's Pacific Surgical Specialists. Gabriel, a plastic surgeon specializes in breast reconstruction and reversionary surgery. Gabriel, who completed his integrated plastic surgery residency at Loma Linda University is a graduate of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Gabriel, who also has an interest in wound healing research, has completed research fellowships at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the Nevada School of Medicine. Serving the Vancouver-Portland metropolitan area, Pacific Surgical Specialists surgeons are board certified with advanced training in laparoscopic surgery.
Aaron Chapin to lecture Vancouver chef Aaron Chapin, owner and executive chef of L’Épice de la Vie Catering, as well as dining services manager at Bridgewood at Four Seasons, both of Vancouver, will discuss local foods as part of the museum's participation in the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibit, Key Ingredients: America By Food. The 7 p.m. program and admission are free in the museum at 1511 Main Street, says museum executive director Susan Tissot. Chapin is a graduate of Treasure Island Culinary Academy. Later this year the Clark County Historical Society, which oversees the museum, will publish Chapin’s Through a Cook's Eyes: Remembering Clark County Food and History, a local historical cookbook. The Smithsonian exhibit delves into the historical, regional and social traditions that merge in everyday meals and celebrates the American dining table, according to Tissot. YWCA seeks volunteers, An introduction to volunteer service is being presented by the YWCA of Clark County from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the YWCA's community room at 3609 Main Street, according to Al Flory, YWCA Spokesperson. Volunteers being sought by the YWCA include the following: advocates for adult and young victims of sexual assault, court-appointed special advocate to represent the best interest of an abused or neglected child, support groups for the SafeChoice domestic violence program, and persons who can provide resources and encouragement to women in the Clark County Jail. Other ongoing volunteer needs include helping out in the Y's Care preschool classroom, supporting teens aging out of foster care, assisting with the YWCA's participation in the Classic Wines Auction, and working behind the scenes to keep the agency running smoothly.
