ShoreBank Pacific and City of Vancouver
to present business sustainability programs

Ilwaco-based ShoreBank Pacific, a sustainable community development bank, with offices in Portland and Seattle, and the City of Vancouver are hosting a four-part sustainability business education series.

The four breakfast meetings will explore how sustainability affects business. Topics are energy use and conservation, carbon emissions, and practical tools for building internal processes and procedures.

Dave Williams, CEO of ShoreBank Pacific, says, “Our goal is to inspire businesses of all types and sizes to learn about and adopt healthy business practices that will contribute to the strength and vitality of Vancouver, and beyond.”

The series begins with a 7:30-to-9:30 a.m. session Tuesday, Sept. 23, with an introduction to sustainability. Registration is limited to the first 75 attendees. The sessions will be held in the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 SE Columbia Way.

Guest speaker is Michelle Long, executive director and co-founder of Sustainable Connections. Long is the co-author of Local First: A How-to Guide, and teaches workshops on creating effective networks of sustainable businesses, and successful community campaigns.

Forum at the Library to interview
all four commissioner candidates

With two of the three Clark County commissioner posts up for election in November, the Forum at the Library, in cooperation with the Clark County League of Women Voters, will interview all four candidates at the 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, forum in Library Hall in the Vancouver Community Library, 1007 E Mill Plain Boulevard.

The candidates are Democrat Pam Brokaw, and Republican Tom Mielke, both of whom are running for district 1, from which Betty Sue Morris is retiring, and incumbent Republican Marc Boldt and Democrat Jeanne Harris, who is a member of the Vancouver City Council.

There is no charge for the forum, which will be moderated by Gregg Herrington.

In addition, the league is presenting a forum for candidates from the 3rd congressional district and the 15th and 17th legislative districts beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, and a forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, for 18th and 49th district candidates. These forums will be in the hearing room in the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street.

Cheryl DeHann named VP
at Bank of Clark County

Cheryl DeHann has been promoted to vice president of customer service at Bank of Clark County. DeHann has 125 years’ banking experience and has been with Bank of Clark County for the past seven years.

DeHann will supervise the courier services team of 13 employees and the bank’s downtown office teller staff of 8 persons.

DeHann is a Family YMCA of Clark County supporter and has been involved in Biz Town for the Vancouver School District and the Fort Vancouver July 4th Fireworks event.

County working to preserve
Lewis River, Mud Lake habitat

Working with Columbia Land Trust, Ducks Unlimited, and a variety of state agencies, Clark County commissioners are working toward preserving Mud Lake in the Lewis River watershed north of Ridgefield.

The county’s Legacy Lands Program will buy 120 acres of state forest land and exchange that for Mud Lake and related properties, currently owned by Plas Newydd, in a family limited partnership.

According to Pat Lee, legacy lands program manager, the exchange will go a long way toward protecting the habit and watershed in the strategic area between the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge and the East Fort Lewis River Greenway.
