Ray and Harriet Johnson earn
Ray and Harriet Johnson, who have been with southern Washington’s Evergreen Habitat for Humanity since its inception in 1991, today were honored as Volunteers of the Year by the growing organization that so far has helped build 16 private homes in Clark County. Ray, a retired Oregonian executive, was one of the original board members of Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, and this year served as one of the first volunteer managers of the planned Restore Store in Clark County. Harriet currently fills in at the organizations office. Evergreen Habitat for Humanity currently has seven homes under construction. Consumer sought for Clark County Board of Health is looking for a nonmedical representative to fill a vacancy on the Public Health Advisory Council. The health council is seeking someone who will represent the consumer side of health issues, according to Clark County commissioner Betty Sue Morris. A large number of healthcare professionals already serve on the Public Health Advisory Council, which provides a direct link between the Clark County Board of Health and the community at large. Now the Board is seeking a Clark County resident who will represent consumers of public health services. The council meets the third Tuesday of every month. Applicants should submit a resume and a letter of interest by Tuesday, Oct. 14. For further information, call Julie Grimm, 397-8477. Economy In Motion Symposium A half-day symposium on the movement of goods, job creation, and attracting and retaining business is being presented from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. The keynote speaker is Kate Vitasek, recognized authority on performance management and metrics implementation. The symposium is being presented by the Port of Vancouver, Identity Clark County, Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, CREDC, Greenlight Greater Portland, the Portland Business Alliance, the Port of Portland and the Washington State Department. of Transportation Further information is available by calling 694-2588, although it was reported at press time that there is no space available for the $20 symposium. News brief During the September Governor’s Economic and Workforce Development Conference, the Southwest Washington Development Council, Columbia River Economic Development Council and the Cowlitz Development Council were all presented the Washington 2008 Economic Development and Workforce Best Practices Award. The award was based on their collective success in economic development.
