Symphony to Vancouver, Northwest

From the shores of the Adriatic Sea comes the Dubrovnik,
Croatia Symphony Orchestra, touring the Pacific Northwest
with The Bravo! Vancouver Chorale. The Vancouver
performance is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Bravo! Vancouver, in its 15th year of bringing an eclectic mix of classical, jazz and avant-garde music to Vancouver, opens its 2008-2009 season with seven performances by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, most of which will be accompanied by the Bravo! Vancouver Chorale.

The most easily reached concert for Vancouver audiences, and the most locally in demand, is the 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, concert in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S. Andresen Road. Admission is $20. Tickets may be bought through TicketsWest or by calling 904-0441.

The first concert this Saturday is in the Portland Hilton for the Rotary International and is sold out. Tickets are available, however, for a 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, concert in the Winningstad Theatre in Portland.

A Monday concert in the Vancouver School for the Arts & Academics is open only to VSAA students and faculty. The series continues on Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia, then to the Croatian Festival in the Seattle Center at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 5, and concludes with a 7 p.m. concert that Sunday in the Edmonds Center for the Performing Arts.

Bravo! Vancouver singers and musicians have performed in Dubrovnik, Croatia, hence the reciprocation.

Bravo! Vancouver is a product of Michael Kissinger and his wife, Maria Manzo. The Dubrovnik concert is free to Bravo! Vancouver season ticket holders. The regular season opens with the traditional Handel Messiah: An Oratorio at 3 p.m. Dec. 7, in St. Joseph Church. Deadline for purchasing season tickets is Friday, Oct. 17.

Kissinger is also producer of the annual Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival and has plans to produce an international jazz festival in Dubrovnik.
