Clark County announces budget hearings

Clark County is nearing completion of its 2009/2010 budget. The Board of Clark County Commissioners must approve a budget no later than December 5. Here are key dates for upcoming public hearings and meetings on the county budget:

  • Wednesday, November 19 — The Board plans afternoon work sessions with elected officials in the sixth-floor training room, Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver. Here are the times:

1:30 p.m. Assessor

1:45 p.m. Auditor

2:00 p.m. Clerk

2:15 p.m. District Court

2:30 p.m. Prosecuting Attorney

2:45 p.m. Sheriff’s Office

3:00 p.m. Superior Court

3:15 p.m. Treasurer’s Office

  • Tuesday, November 25 — After its regular Tuesday hearing, the Board will hold a work session with certain county departments in the sixth-floor training room, Public Service Center, Vancouver.

  • Wednesday, November 26 —  As soon as a 10 a.m. hearing is finished, the Board will hold a work session with the Budget Office to consider any modifications to the recommended budget for the public hearings below. Location will be the sixth-floor training room, Public Service Center, Vancouver.

  • Monday, December 1 —  2 p.m. public hearing for elected officials and county department directors to present their 2009-2010 biennial budgets,  sixth-floor training room, Public Service Center, Vancouver.

  • Tuesday, December 2 — Hearings for the public to speak on the budget:

-10 a.m., sixth-floor hearing room, Public Service Center.

-6:30 p.m., Rainier Room, Clark County Fire District 5 Northwest Regional Training Center, 11606 N.E. 66th St., #103, Vancouver.

  • Wednesday, December 3 — 9 a.m., Board will meet to review the final 2009/2010 budget. Meetings will be held at 9 a.m. on December 4 and 5 only if necessary.

More information about these work sessions and hearings will be posted on the Board’s Web site at http://www.clark.wa.gov/bocc/index.html. Copies of  Clark County’s proposed 2009-2010 biennial budget are available at the Clark County Office of the Budget, sixth floor, Public Service Center, Vancouver.

The Sixth Annual Clark County Turkey Trot is on again this year. The event includes a 5K Run/Walk and a 10K run (as well as food, a pińata and the traditional Polar Bear swim in Klineline Pond after the race).  Proceeds benefit The Children’s Trust Fund to help disadvantaged children in Southwest Washington. The site features a new design and plenty of “easy buttons” that makes finding the Port information you’re interested in a snap.

Port officials said the site is “now easier to navigate than the mighty Columbia...Here at the port of possibilities, we knew there had to be a way to bring a fresh, exciting new look to our website. So we gave it a try. Actually, we did better than that. We did it. If you haven't already checked it out, you'll be impressed.”

The Vancouver Dance Theatre  Presents The Nutcracker

For more than 30 years, the Vancouver Dance theatre, a non-profit community dance group, has showcased the talent of its semi-professional ballet troupe, members of which range in age from five to young adult. The troupe offers an affordable and highly entertaining opportunity for audiences of all ages to experience the arts. Vancouver Dance Theater also provides local young dancers with live performance experience, under the watchful eye of Artistic Director Alexandrous Ballard.

This year’s Nutcracker performances are as follows:

GVCC Adds new staff

The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) recently hired Darcy Altizer as Membership Services Director and Susie Bauder to work on programs and events.

Altizer will direct and administer membership service and retention operations of the Chamber and serve as staff liaison for the GVCC’s membership services committee and the ambassador program. Prior to joining the GVCC, Altizer spent six years at Educational Opportunities for Children and Families (EOCF), first as its Family and Community Partnership Supervisor and more recently as the Community Partnership and Resource Development Manager.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree in business and leadership from Marylhurst University and is a 2009 Leadership Clark County class member. Her professional affiliations include the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, Woodland Chamber of Commerce, the National Head Start Association, Washington State Head Start and the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.

Bauder joins the GVCC’s programs and events team. She will be in charge of all ribbon cuttings, Leads and Needs and Speed Networking events and will also work on the Chamber’s annual and special events. Prior to the GVCC, she planned large-scale incentive travel packages for Meetings Plus (Maritz Travel) in Walnut Creek, Calif. Bauder’s experience includes positions in event planning, sales and marketing, and management.

She is past president of Clark County Newcomers and has held previous leadership roles with chambers and other community organizations. She has an Associate of Arts degree from Fullerton Junior College in California and attended the Arts and Design School of Woodbury College in Los Angeles.
