YWCA seeking volunteers
YWCA Clark County has a critical need for adult volunteers.
Assistance is needed with advocacy and support for victims of sexual
assault, volunteers willing to represent the best interests of
abused and neglected children in the court system, and volunteers to
provide caring support and encouragement to incarcerated women.Other
opportunities include helping in the pre-school classroom,
facilitating support groups for victims of domestic violence,
supporting youth who are aging out of the foster care system,
serving on YWCA committees, assisting in fundraising and working
behind the scenes to keep the agency functioning smoothly.
There are volunteer roles for both women and men.The
YWCA will kick off its spring 2009 training cycle with an
Introduction to Volunteer Service on Tuesday, April 7, 6:00 - 8:30
pm, in the agency's Community Room at 3609 Main Street, Vancouver.

“Operation Fairy Godmother” underway
Fairy Godmother is now collecting dress donations. The
project started by the Vancouver School District Foundation in 2003
pairs Clark County high school girls with the dress of their dreams
for a fraction of the cost. Over the past five years, thousands of
girls throughout the Clark County area have found formal and
semiformal dresses at the Operation Fairy Godmother dress event.
Any Clark County area student donating a dress can
choose a dress at the March dress event—free. Girls who don’t have a
dress to trade can still attend the event and buy one for $10. In
addition, every high school is issued free dress vouchers to be
distributed to girls who may not have a gown to donate or the money
to purchase one. Donations will be accepted at community
drop-off sites and at most Clark County area high schools.
The project culminates with a day-long dress giveaway event
scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2009.Community members
are urged to donate their gently used gowns, shoes and accessories
at any of the following collection sites before March 13, 2009.
All donations are tax deductible.
