The physicians who read
patient's mammograms and diagnose any breast health issues
have stepped forward to give a gift of $50,000 to help build
the new Kearney Breast Center at Southwest Washington
Medical Center.
"We're thrilled Columbia Imaging has
partnered with us on this outstanding facility," said
Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation director
Jean Rahn.
"This further demonstrates their willingness to invest
personally in the health of the women in our community."

Rock Wood Fired Pizza & Spirits, the new eatery in the new
Grand Central Shopping Center just off Highway 14, is
donating 50 percent of all draft beer sales between 11 a.m.
and midnight, tomorrow, St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, to the
Fort Vancouver Regional Library District’s 2009 summer
reading program.
The summer reading program encourages students to read
through the summer vacation. An estimated 44,000 reading
prizes will be given young readers. The cost of the program
is about $51,000.

students headed for state championships
60 students from the Clark County Skills
Center will vie for state championships
in the SkillsUSA statewide competition next month in Yakima after finishing in the top three in the recent
southwest
Washington
regionals.
Among the twelve regional champions were Mountain View
senior Stephen
Dirocco and Union junior Valeriy Silanov in Automotive
Technology; Justin
Roub, a Columbia River junior, and
Viktor Slivkov,
a Heritage junior in Construction Technology; Evergreen
senior Aaron
Bruckner, Parkrose senior
Sterling Arkills,
Camas junior
Benjamin Rodriguez and Mountain View senior
Steven Nance in
Electro-Digital Technologies; and seniors
Zack Flatner of
Hockinson and Andrea
Bunica of Parkrose in Pre-Engineering and Design.
The regional champions in Criminal Justice -- Union juniors
Isabella Cruz
and Darya
Koloyarskaya as well as Evergreen juniors
Tyler Rossmiller
and Timothy Tite
– will not compete in
Yakima
because there is no statewide competition for Criminal
Justice.
The statewide competition runs April 9th through April 11th
at the Yakima
Convention Center.
Four candidates in the running for Hockinson superintendent
position
The Hockinson School District
met in-person with four candidates March 13 and 14.
Candidates interviewed include
Sandra Yager,
Donald Brannam,
Mark Ross and
Michael Grubbs.
Activities included a tour of Hockinson's K-12 facilities,
participating in a panel discussion moderated by
student-leaders, and completing interviews with staff,
citizens and the Board of Directors.
The
Board of Directors will hold a special meeting at 7:00 p.m.,
Thursday, March 19 to review additional background and
reference information, and further develop next steps in the
process of selecting a superintendent.
The
Board expects to complete the selection process by
mid-April.
One of the
candidates,
Dr. Donald Brannam,
withdrew his application over the weekend.

The 18th Annual Paddy Hough
Parade, sponsored by the Hough Neighborhood Foundation
begins at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow, March 17, at the Hough
School, proceeds north on Daniels Street to 34th
Street, then south on Main Street, to the point of
beginning. Parade includes school marching bands, car clubs,
and the Vancouver Police and Fire Departments.
