Marilyn Darr earns
Marilyn Darr, faculty member at Southwest’s Family Practice residency training program, is the first to win Southwest Washington Medical Center's Extraordinary Doctor of the Year award. More than 300 nominations were received this past year from patients and employees of the hospital who wanted to recognize physicians for going above and beyond to ensure excellent care for their patients. Darr is a faculty member at Southwest’s Family Practice residency training program. “Dr. Darr optimizes compassion and competence without compromising either,” said Rae Wright, a physician with Family Medicine of Southwest Washington. Said one of Darr's patients: “She is so honest and caring. How many doctors call you at home? She really cares, and I have never been happier with a doctor. She now cares for my whole family. Robert Stewart has been hired as a registered representative with the financial network in the wealth management department of Columbia Credit Union. Stewart, who attended Clark College and College of the Siskiyous, most recently worked as a financial advisor at a local financial institution and is series 7 and series 66 registered, according to wealth management department vice president Jill Kusmirek. keynote Bonnie J. Dunbar, former NASA Mission Specialist astronaut and current President and CEO of the Museum of Flight, will give the keynote address for the 6th annual Research Showcase from Washington State University Vancouver, Thursday, April 9. Dunbar will talk about the common ground connecting her experiences as a NASA mission specialist astronaut aboard five space flights, her role in leading and directing the Museum of Flight, and her educational journey. Her remarks will be delivered beginning at 7 a.m. The research showcase, open to the public at no charge, is from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Firstenburg Student Commons. More than 65 posters and exhibits of faculty and student research projects, digital artwork, and scholarly publications will be on display throughout the day. The Showcase will also feature several oral presentations and an awards ceremony and reception. County commissioners to
Clark County commissioners will begin holding monthly evening work sessions beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7. “This will make it easier for citizens to follow county issues and speak with us on a regular basis,” said Marc Boldt, chairman of the county board of commissioners. The meetings will be in the Public Service Center. Commissioners will also meet weekly at 10 a.m. Clark County Fire & Rescue
Clark County Fire & Rescue has bought the Clark County Sheriff's Office 19-foot rescue boat. The all-weather boat will be staffed with a specially trained crew and will respond to emergencies from the Ridgefield fire station. Clark County Fire & Rescue protects more than 40 miles of waterfront. The protected waterfront includes the Columbia, Lewis, and Lake Rivers as well as the Columbia Slough. The boat and crew will respond year-round to water-rescue calls, medical emergencies, boaters in distress, and fire calls in areas where shallow water would restrict other vessels.
