Wealth
First Independent has promoted Joline Ortiz and John Gomez to vice presidents in the bank’s Wealth Management Group. They manage investment portfolios for trust and advisory clients, and set investment strategy for the Asset Management Group within Wealth Management. Ortiz and Gomez, who joined First Independent in 2007, have both helped to build the bank’s Wealth Management Group into a high-performing forecasting and investment strategy team with more than $550 million in assets under management, according to Jennifer Rhodes, senior vice president and head of the Wealth Management Group. Ortiz has earned the designation of chartered financial analyst with experience in exotic derivatives, fixed-income portfolio and trade compliance, and real estate portfolio analysis and management. workshop The Columbia River Economic Development Council is offering the second in its series of free workshops, “Tools For Tough Times: Accessing Capital,” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Discovery Ballroom in the Hilton Vancouver, Washington. The topics to be covered are as follows: which lenders in Clark County are using the SBA programs; current and historical loan numbers for Clark County; and permanent and temporary changes to the SBA Loan program as a result of the Recovery Act. Club The Vancouver Lake Sailing Club will hold a summer sailing school program for juniors (8-12 years) and for those 13 and older. The program will offer a series of classes for varying skill levels. All classes, which will include 20 hours of instruction on land and water, will be taught by U.S. Sailing-certified instructors. Half-day classes for juniors will be offered in five-day sessions from June 15-July 17. The cost is $150 per student. Registration is limited, and pre-registration is required. Visitor spending in Clark County in 2007 was $392 million, a 7.8% increase over 2006, according to Jennifer Kirby, spokesperson for CVB.
