Capsule for next 25 years made


On to the next Clark College time capsule. Left to right, welding professor emeritus Ryan Collins, who created Clark College’s 50th anniversary time capsule, joins metal arts instructor Beth Heron, past interim president Ellis Dunn and Clark President Bob Knight at unveiling of the newest time capsule, “Scend,” created by Heron, which will house the college’s 75th anniversary memorabilia. Fifty-year capsule was opened yesterday.

County fair announces
second amphitheater gig

The Clark County Fair Association today announced the second Amphitheater at Clark County show for the 2009 county fair.

Called an ultimate one-night rock-’n’-roll experience, Summer of Rock at the Fair, presented by KUFO, presents four chart-topping alternative rock bands at the Amphitheater at Clark County: Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestorm.

The show is Monday, Aug 10. Larry the Cable Guy is being presented at the amphitheater Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, May 16th, at 10:00 a.m. at all Ticketmaster locations and at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets start at $29.00 and go to $59.00, which includes admission to the Fair.

The 2009 count fair runs from Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug 16.

Clark County law enforcement memorial
is tomorrow at Public Service Center

The Clark County Sheriff's Office is recognizing Law Enforcement Memorial Day with ceremonies beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14.

The public is invited to the event which honors and recognizes law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The ceremony will be in the Clark County Public Service Center Plaza, 13th and Franklin Streets.

Eight Clark County-based officers have been killed in the line of duty. They are as follows: Deputy Wilfred E. Rorison, Clark County Sheriff's Office (1922); Sheriff Lester Wood - Clark County Sheriff's Office (1927); Special ATF Agents Ballard W. Turner and Ernest B. Vlasich (1932); Trooper Don R. Campbell Jr., Washington State Patrol (1951); Deputy Martin S. Sowders,  Clark County Sheriff's Office (1976); Trooper James S. Gain, Washington State Patrol (1987); and Sgt. Brad Crawford, Clark County Sheriff's Office (2004).

Historical Society has busy month

The annual Clark County Historical Society’s Old Fashioned Barn Social event is at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30, on a horse farm near Woodland in north Clark County. The event includes a barbecue dinner, cowboy music and live and silent auctions, reports Susan Tissot, executive director of the society and museum.

Admission is $65 for museum members; $75 for nonmembers.

From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 24, the Clark County Historical Society is having a birthday party at the museum, celebrating a double anniversary; the museum is 45 years old (to the day) and the Carnegie Library is 100 years old.

That event is free. Clark County artist Paul Lanquist has created a commemorative poster of the historic Carnegie Library building that he will sign for purchasers.

Clark College alumni
awards dinner is June 2

The annual Clark College Alumni-Student Dinner honoring Clark College alumni and students  is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in the Gaiser Student Center.

The 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award will be announced and presented during the event sponsored by Riverview Community Bank.

Tessra Lund, Washougal High School, and Haley Adamson, Camas High School, have been selected as this year’s recipients of the Camas/Washougal Chamber college scholarships. They were selected for their dedication to academics, extra curricular activities, sports, volunteerism, and community involvement. They will be honored at the CW Chamber's Annual Award Banquet on June 2nd at Camas Meadows Golf Course.

The Prairie High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps has been selected to receive a 2008-2009 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award.  The award recognizes Air Force Junior ROTC units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations, and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force Junior ROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.
