Comments wanted on Camp
The state Department of Ecology is seeking comments on cleaning up the central impact target area of Camp Bonneville. The former artillery target area covers roughly 465 acres of the nearly 4,000 former military base in northeast Clark County. The comment period began today and continues through Monday, June 29. In 2006, the Bonneville Conservation Restoration and Renewal Team took temporary ownership to manage the cleanup. The Department of Ecology will determine when the site meets state cleanup standards. After that, Clark County will own the site and use it as a park and wilderness conservation area. The camp was used for army training and firing range practice from 1910 to 1995. Draft documents may be seen in the Vancouver Mall Public Library. For further information, call 892-8256.
