Riverview Six to Sunset
concert The Swingline Cubs headline the free 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23, Riverview Six to Sunset Concert in Esther Short Park. Food vendors will offer a wide selection of meals, snacks, and beverages, including some new options never before offered at these concerts. New transportation options are also in the works. Blankets and sand chairs are recommended. Barbeques, smoking and alcohol are prohibited, except in designated areas. Dogs on a leash are welcome. Battle Ground suspends In an effort to conserve water during the current hot weather conditions, the City of Battle Ground has suspended irrigation in city parks. Temperatures are expected to soar over the next week, which may result in noticeably dry lawns and landscaping in city parks. Irrigation practices will resume when water levels increase and demand lessens with cooler weather conditions. Funding Columbia River Crossing:Input sought on tollingConstruction of the Columbia River Crossing project will need multiple sources of funding, including federal and state governments, and tolls. The CRC Tolling Committee composed of leaders from the Washington and Oregon transportation departments and transportation commissions has launched a tolling web site to provide information on the six tolling scenarios that are being considered, as well as information on how tolling will work, and how it will help fund the project. The CRC Tolling Committee would like to hear your comments, suggestions and questions regarding tolling and the scenarios being considered. The committee’s report about the community’s preferences will be provided to the Washington and Oregon transportation commissions and legislatures in January 2010 for their consideration when setting tolling policies and rates. To learn more about tolling and provide your feedback, visit the tolling Web site. Vancouver Lake closed to swimmers, but park open to the publicClark County Public Health and Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation are advising the public to avoid direct contact with water at Vancouver Lake due to elevated levels of E. coli bacteria and blue-green algae that have been revealed by routine testing. Because exposure to either E. coli bacteria or blue-green algae can cause disease, public health officials are recommending no swimming or wading, wind surfing or sail boarding, no water contact with animals, and using precaution against contact with water while boating or fishing. The health warning will remain in effect until tests show that E. coli levels do not exceed Washington State and US Environmental Protection Agency guidelines, and blue-green algae levels do not exceed World Health Organization guidelines. Clark County Public Health will advise the public when water contact is considered safe. Vancouver Lake Regional Park will remain open to the public. Water within the restrooms and shelters is unaffected by the lake water and remains safe to drink. Swimmers are encouraged to visit the Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation Web site at http://www.cityofvancouver.us/parks-recreation/ for other swimming options.
