Tidewater’s John Pigott
appointed
John PigottJohn Pigott, assistant to the president focusing on government and industry affairs at Tidewater Barge, has been appointed to the Inland Waterways Users Board. The Inland Waterways Users Board is an industry federal advisory committee whose eleven member board represents all geographic areas on the fuel-taxed inland waterways system of theUnited States. The board’s purpose is to make recommendations to the Congress and the secretary of the Army on the priorities and spending from the Inland Waterways Trust Fund for construction and rehabilitation projects on the fuel-taxed waterways system. Such recommendations are made in an annual report to the secretary of the Army and the Congress. Pigott has been with Tidewater since 1997 when he was hired as port captain. 2009 primary reminder Primary ballots are being sent out tomorrow, July 29. Citizens who are not currently registered to vote anywhere in the state of Washington have an additional time period, running through Monday, August 10, to register by appearing in person at the County Elections Department, 1408 Franklin Street, Vancouver. The deadline for submitting a mail-in voter registration form or registering online for the August 18, 2009, primary and special election has ended. A sample ballot listing all candidate races and measures appearing on the August 18, 2009, primary and special election ballot is available on the Clark County Elections Department Web site at http://clarkvotes.org. City of Battle Ground offers cooling center during hot weather spell The City of Battle Ground has offered citizens the Battle Ground Community center as a free cooling since Monday, and will remain available today, Tuesday, July 28 through Wednesday, July 29, from 2 to 9 p.m. Citizens may beat the heat in the air-conditioned facility located at 912 East Main Street in Fairgrounds Park. Books, magazines, board games and kids activities will be available. For more information, please contact the City’s Parks & Recreation Department at 342-5380. Public meeting for Hazel Dell sports fields project Clark County Public Works and Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation will host a public meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2009, to present and discuss the latest information about the proposed Hazel Dell Sports Fields project. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in building B1 at the Clark County Public Works Operations Division Conference Center, 4700 N.E. 78th St., Vancouver. Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend this meeting to provide input on the project. Those who cannot attend the public meeting will be able to review the display and handout materials and provide comments through the project Web page starting on July 31, 2009. The county will accept comments through August 6, 2009. Lunch with Senator Patty Murray Join Senator Patty Murray for lunch and program at the Hilton in Vancouver, 301 West Sixth Street, on Thursday, August 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Senator Murray will give an update on transportation, healthcare, workforce, and veterans and will have a Q&A session. Art on the Boulevard features new works Art on the Boulevard, a fine art gallery in the Vancouver Marketplace, features Vancouver artist Fay Kahn and will be showing now through August 21st. The show will feature recent collage, batik and watercolor paintings by Kahn.
