Evergreen won’t be laying off teachers Despite budget cuts totaling more than 11 million dollars, the Evergreen School District has put together a budget for the coming year that contains no teacher losses. Evergreen schools Superintendent John Deeder says that Evergreen is one of only the large school districts in the state that was able to make significant cuts without having to lay off teachers. Deeder says one program that will see steep deductions but will not be eliminated is the Community Education program. Deeder will present budget recommendations to the school board meeting Tuesday, Aug. 11.
Columbia Springs hosts fundraising event Hooked Hooked, an event to support Columbia Springs is being held on Thursday, Aug. 27th, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Columbia Springs is a program that provides environmental education to the community through on-site education and environmental educational outreach programs for local students and adults. There will be food catered by local restaurants (Tommy Os, 1220 Main, Black Stone and Applewood), a pig roast, beer and wine tasting, live music, games and prizes, and even a dunk tank where guests can dunk Dean Sutherland, Tim Leavitt, and John White. Hooked tickets are $50 and VIP tickets are $75. Northwest choir sings at First United Methodist Church in Vancouver The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents the premiere of Chor Anno on Saturday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be at the First United Methodist Church at 401 E. 33rd Street in Vancouver. Chor Anno is a group of Northwest choral musicians who perform only one weekend a year. The concert, presented by The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, is the first of two local concerts, with the second being performed the following day at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Longview, WA. The program features Mass for a New Millennium, by Richard Nance, and also features works by Gwyneth Walker, Morten Lauridsen and others. The price of tickets for Vancouver Symphony season ticket holders are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students.
