Eighth annual Hands Across the Bridge and Oxfest celebration set for Labor Day

The eighth annual Hands Across the Bridge and Oxfest event celebrates freedom from alcohol and other drug addiction and is part of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

Hands Across the Bridge begins at 10 a.m. to noon, Labor Day Monday, Sept. 7, with a hand joining celebration connecting Oregon and Washington across the Interstate Bridge. Live music, recovery resources, food vendors and more fun will follow at Oxfest, noon to 7 p.m.

Elected officials from both Oregon and Washington will join the celebration to show their support of the work done by the recovery community. Elected officials from Oregon are Rep. Chip Shields and Multnomah County Chair Ted Wheeler. Washington officials include Sen. Craig Pridemore, Clark County Commission Chair Marc Boldt and City of Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard.

Also joining this year’s celebration will be Ivette A. Torres, MEd, MS, associate director for consumer affairs for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Oregon meets at the Doubletree Hotel, 1401 N Hayden Island Drive. Washington meets at Esther Short Park, 8th and Columbia.

Nominate a Woman of Achievement for YWCA and Clark College award

Nominations for the Women of Achievement awards are now open. The awards, given annually to eight women by YWCA Clark County and Clark College, honor women who have made lasting and far-reaching contributions throughout Southwest Washington.

To download a nomination form, visit www.ywcaclarkcounty.org/woa.htm. Nominators can also pick up a form from 8 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the YWCA office at 3609 Main Street, Vancouver. Anyone may nominate a woman, and women may nominate themselves.

The deadline to receive Women of Achievement nomination forms is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The Women of Achievement Luncheon Celebration will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington.

Clark County Chamber of Commerce holds September business & networking seminar

Clark County Chamber of Commerce is presenting its September business seminar & networking event from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, Northwest Baptist Convention Center, 3200 NE 109th Avenue.
