Council of Homeless to host 10th annual luncheon and award ceremony

Ross A. Thompson

Council of the Homeless will host its 10th Annual Hope & Action Recognition Awards Luncheon on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Hilton Vancouver. Nominations for this year’s awards closed on June 2nd, and the committee announced the 2009 Recognition Awards honorees: Gayle Rothrock, first executive director of the council for the homeless; Geri Hiller and Joy Gault, volunteer winter hospitality overflow shelter coordinators; Becky Taylor, Lake Shore Elementary (Vancouver School District); Alicia Dumlao, Emergency Shelter Clearinghouse volunteer; Suzanne Zamberlan, and John Zamberlan, Project Homeless Connect; and Shelby Wickhorst, Project Homeless Connect.

Keynote speaker, Ross A. Thompson, professor of psychology at the University of California at Davis, will discuss how homelessness, hunger, poverty and related conditions in the family and society impact the personal and social development of children, and how hope and relief can be brought to families in need.

Proceeds from the luncheon sponsorship support the Emergency Shelter Clearinghouse, Community Voice Mail and Community Housing programs of the Council, and outreach, education and advocacy efforts, and other projects of the Council.
