Library district launches 2009 teen writing contest The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District is launching a writing contest for pupils in grades 6-12 beginning Monday, Sept. 7, and ending Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. The contest is open to all teens who live within, are homeschooled in, or attend school in the FVRL District, Woodland School District, and Yale Valley Library District. Submissions may be short stories, poetry, comic strips or in other formats; all genres of writing are encouraged. Judging will focus on the content of each submission, not the kind of writing. Entries must be 1,000 words or less and typed or clearly handwritten in English. Entries may be faxed to 693-2681, turned in on disk or paper, or emailed as an attachment to teens@fvrl.org. Entries will be accepted at any FVRL location until closing on Friday, Oct. 2. Entries are limited to one per person. Completed entry forms must accompany submissions and are available at any FVRL library or bookmobile, and on the library’s Web site at http://www.fvrl.org/teens/. iQ Credit Union and Vancouver Chamber host “beach party” - themed Chamber After Hours iQ Credit Union and Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce are hosting its annual Business After Hours farewell to summer event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, in iQ Credit Union’s new downtown headquarters at 1313 Main Street. Surfer attire is welcome but not required. Attendees wearing flip - flops will be automatically entered for a special door prize. Parking ticket payments accepted online starting Sept. 8 Effective Tuesday, Sept. 8, the pain of paying a parking ticket will be made a little easier when the City of Vancouver begins providing an online payment option. "The quick and easy method allows customers to pay their parking tickets from home or wherever their PC is located and will save them the cost of a stamp," says Michael Jacobs, City Parking Services manager. "It will also make it easier for customers to pay their fines on time so they don't incur additional fees," Jacobs added. To pay online with either Visa or Mastercard a customer simply enters the parking citation number or vehicle license plate number.
