Southwest Foundation Adds Five New Board Members Dick Hannah, Dorothy Jackson, and Al Krause pictured above, Mark Matthias and Kay McClaskey pictured below.Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation has elected five new members to its Foundation Board of Directors: Dick Hannah, Dorothy Jackson, Al Krause, Mark Matthias and Kay McClaskey. Each board member will serve a three-year term which began on July 1, 2009. Currently there are 25 voting members serving on the foundation board. As the owner of Hannah Motors, Hannah has supported Southwest Washington Medical Center by hosting several private fundraising events and supporting Pink Power events, which provided his dealership with a naming opportunity in the Kearney Breast Center. Jackson and husband Mel are owners of Fort Vancouver Convalescent Center. In gratitude for the compassionate care their patients receive at Southwest Washington Medical Center, the Jacksons recently made a gift to name the cardiac care unit waiting room on the 4 floor of the Firstenburg Tower. Krause performed Southwest Washington Medical Center’s first heart surgery in 1992. During his career, Krause was considered one of the most skilled heart surgeons in the region and was largely responsible for the growth of the hospital’s heart surgery program. As co-founder and owner of Beaches Restaurant, Matthias champions children’s causes by serving on the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and the Vancouver School District Foundation Board. He was named “First Citizen” last year for his many community involvements and achievements. McClaskey is known for her many civic involvements, including serving on past boards of the Community Foundation of Southwest Washington, the Parks and Recreation Board, the Children’s Trust Auxiliary, the Vancouver School District Foundation and the current Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors. The Southwest Foundation is the primary fundraising arm of the medical center and manages over $6 million for programs such as Women’s and Children’s Services, Cardiac Care, Hospice, Cancer Care, Diabetes Education and Physical Rehab. The Foundation is a separately incorporated not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to support the work of the medical center in benefiting the community. Therefore, it shares the same goals as the medical center namely, to increase access and affordability to the community and to work towards prevention. The Foundation raises and manages funds to support large capital needs, new programs, and services for people who might otherwise fall through the cracks. It accomplishes this by working with businesses and individuals that want to make an impact on the medical center as a vital, community resource. Port of Vancouver USA and Clark Public Utilities formalize land swap for rail project The Port of Vancouver USA and Clark Public Utilities have agreed to exchange property adjacent to the utility’s River Road Generating Plant and the port’s new Terminal 5 in order to accommodate rail construction. The port commission on Sept. 8 unanimously adopted a resolution to exchange 0.77 acre of property currently included in Terminal 5, immediately west of the utility’s property, in exchange for two small triangle parcels totaling 0.77 acre on the south side of the utility’s property.
