Leadership Clark County names three to board

Mayor of Battle Ground, Michael J. Ciraulo (left) and Vice President and Owner of Techjet Imaging, Jason Beatty (right).

Leadership Clark County’s board of directors elected Jason Beatty, Michael J. Ciraulo, and Kelly Sills in September, increasing the membership to a total of 18 members that oversee the nonprofit’s operations. The new members will each serve a three-year term.

Beatty is vice president and owner of Techjet Imaging, a company that provides large-format digital graphics. He was included in the Vancouver Business Journal’s “2006 Accomplished and Under 40” list. His business has won this entrepreneur numerous awards for innovation and growth. Beatty holds a degree from the University of Washington in speech communications and is an alumnus of the LCC class of 2008.

Ciraulo is mayor of Battle Ground and is serving his second term on the Battle Ground city council. Additionally, he is a chief fire officer with Clark County Fire & Rescue. He currently serves on the board of directors for the North County Community Food Bank, the Clark County Steering Committee for Loaves & Fishes, the Clark County Urban Policy Board, the Wastewater Management Advisory Board, the North County Leadership Group, and the Clark County Community Action Advisory Board. He holds degrees in fire science from Portland Community College and a bachelor’s in business management and communications from Concordia University.

Sills is currently an economic development manager for the Clark County Board of Commissioners. In addition, he serves on the board of directors for five Washington nonprofit and governmental organizations — Convention and Visitors Bureau, Clean Air Agency, Columbia River Economic Development Council, Clark County Chamber, and Washington Investment Board — and works extensively with bi-state economic organizations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Portland State University and a master’s of public administration from California State University. He is a 2002 graduate of LCC.

LCC also welcomed two new members, Lucy Nichols and Kelly Hoeppner, to the class of 2009-10, which rounds out to 36 participants. Nichols is a College Bound Scholarship counselor with the College Success Foundation, and Hoeppner is co-owner and the catering director of Simply Thyme Catering.

Vancouver resident welcomed to Washington, D.C.

Nicole Rhodes

Today, Congressman Brian Baird welcomed Vancouver resident Nicole Rhodes to Washington, D.C.

Rhodes, to be named a Davidson Fellow for her project entitled "The Dictionary of Distance," is one of only 19 students nationwide to be honored by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development. The national nonprofit is dedicated to supporting profoundly gifted young people. The award comes with a $50,000 scholarship.

"Nicole has made Southwest Washington proud," said Baird. "Her achievements are a testament not only to her work ethic but also to what any student can accomplish when making a commitment to education."

Rhodes is currently a senior at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics. Additional biographical information on her, as well as the other honorees, can be found at www.DavidsonGifted.org/Fellows.
