Port Commission agenda

Port of Vancouver USA Commissioners Nancy Baker, Jerry Oliver and Brian Wolfe will consider two action items related to industrial development at an open session at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Oct. 27, in the Commission Room at the port’s administration building, 3103 NW Lower River Road.

Among the items to be considered is approval of a public works contract with Rotschy, Inc. (Vancouver, Wash.), to build Task 3 of the Terminal 5 Unit Train Improvement project for a maximal amount of $14,219,955, which includes state sales tax.

The project will provide rail service to Terminal 5 to encourage future development of the facility by a suitable marine customer. The project will also provide queuing and storage area for rail cars for increased efficiency to the overall Port of Vancouver rail system.

Another item to be considered is the Centennial Industrial Park Development Agreement. Staff will recommend to the commission authorization to enter into a development agreement with the City of Vancouver regarding the development of the Centennial Industrial Park property. The agreement addresses vesting of development standards, and land-use decisions, transportation concurrency standards, mitigation of the port’s traffic impact fees, clarification regarding terms of traffic signal installation on SR 501, a possible credit for installation of an oversized water line, and a clarification on late-comers fees as they relate to the development.

The regular meeting will be televised live on CVTV (Cable channel 21) beginning at 9:30 a.m. It will also be streaming live on www.cvtv.org and will be archived later in the day on the same website for future viewing.

Evergreen High School "We The People" to host meet the mayoral candidate event

Evergreen High School's "We the People" students will host both Vancouver mayoral candidate Tim Leavitt and Eric Withee, field strategist for Mayor Royce Pollard's reelection campaign, for an hour-long question-and-answer session, from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the campus commons, 14300 NE 18th Street.

The event was organized by the "We the People" team at EHS as part of a civic engagement lesson. Students from all four high schools within Evergreen Public Schools have been invited to attend, including the Heritage High School "We the People" team.

Students will provide an agenda for the event and serve as emcees and moderators.

Contact Patti McMaster, Evergreen High School, 604-3700, for more information.

The EHS "We the People" team has been around for nine years and is made up of eight teams qualifying for the state competition. In order to qualify, the students are tested on a variety of topics, including basics such as political philosophy, foundations of government, the Constitutional Convention and more challenging detailed subjects such as Civil War amendments.
